July 28, 2016Peach Property Group and NOVUM Hotel Group conclude 20-year lease agreement
July 28, 2016Peach Property Group and NOVUM Hotel Group conclude 20-year lease agreement: former Hoesch headquarters in Dortmund will be transformed into a 4-star hotel with 210 rooms
• Hotel with 210 rooms planned in historic building
• Lease agreement concluded with NOVUM Hotel Group for a 4-star hotel as “NOVUM Select”
• Tenders for conversion work are underway
• Completion planned for the end of 2018
Peach Property Group, an investor specialising in portfolio management in Germany with a focus on residential property and selected development projects, has achieved further progress in transforming the former Hoesch headquarters in Dortmund. Planning permission to convert the historic building was obtained last year, and Peach has now concluded a 20-year lease agreement with Hamburg-based NOVUM Hotel Group, which is enjoying dynamic growth. The NOVUM Hotel Group will start operating the hotel with 210 rooms and space of around 15,500 m2 (gross floor space) under the “NOVUM Select” brand in spring 2019. The NOVUM Hotel Group currently holds 84 hotels in Germany and other European countries. The hotel group already operates a “NOVUM Hotel Unique” and a “NOVUM Hotel Excelsior” in Dortmund, and is thus well acquainted with the local market.
The building is currently vacant, and will be converted into a 4-star hotel while maintaining its historic, protected substance. The responsible authorities already issued the requisite planning permission in 2015, and tenders for the conversion work are currently running. It is planned to start the construction work at the end of 2016 and to complete this by the end of 2018.
In addition to the hotel, the property has around 1,700 m2 of additional space that is available for an alternative use. Peach Property Group is currently in advanced-stage negotiations with an interested party for this space. Peach Property Group is forecasting total annual rental income of around EUR 1.5 million for a fully let property. As it is possible to write down investments in this building at an accelerated rate thanks to Denkmal AfA (deprecation for the use of listed buildings), this property will earn attractive returns after taxes.
The property enjoys a central location at Rheinische Straße 173 to the west of Dortmund’s city centre, and was built between 1916 and 1921. The listed building has neoclassical architecture and a total rental area of around 17,200 m2 (gross floor space) and is close to the “U” cultural centre in the up-and-coming Unionviertel in Dortmund. This district will be extensively redeveloped in the coming years.
Dr. Thomas Wolfensberger, Peach Property Group’s CEO, commented: “We are very pleased that we have been able to acquire a top-class, financially strong tenant for this historic property in the form of the NOVUM Hotel Group. We have once again proven our ability to manage complex real estate projects. We are now entering into the next stage of realisation by concluding this lease and to further developing the property.”
David Etmenan, managing partner with NOVUM Hotel Group added: “We are very pleased that we are expanding our portfolio of hotels by adding this very special project, and that we will be able to offer our guests an exclusive 4-star NOVUM Select Hotel in Dortmund after its completion.”
Stars from across the globe share their dreams to inspire and improve children’s lives
July 28, 2016Stars from across the globe share their dreams to inspire and improve children’s lives
Steven Spielberg, Professor Stephen Hawking, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Niall Horan, Buzz Aldrin, Mark Rylance, Maisie Williams, Naomi Campbell, The Delevingne sisters, Dame Helen Mirren, and a host of others have their dreams transformed into art to go on display across the UK

Inspired by the release of the highly anticipated film, The BFG, and the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birth, director Steven Spielberg, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Professor Stephen Hawking and Buzz Aldrin are among dozens of high-profile individuals supporting a project to raise money for children across the world.
A new public art installation called The BFG Dream Jar Trail is launching in partnership with Unilever across the UK from tomorrow (Saturday). The unique trail has seen the childhood dreams and aspirations of 50 celebrated famous people transformed into sculptures by talented artists. The whimsical sculptures have been placed in giant Dream Jars up to six feet tall to form an art trail in London and across the UK for everyone to see for free this summer.
The trail is raising money for Save the Children to support their vital work in some of the toughest places in the world so that every child has the chance to make their dreams come true. It will also benefit a specialist nursing programme supported by Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity. The jars are to be auctioned in collaboration with Paddle8 to raise money for both causes.
The film’s Academy Award®winning director Steven Spielberg has dreamt of having; “All the sweets in the world but this child in a candy shop would have no ill effects from overindulgence”. Entitled ‘Sweet Dreams’, the jar has been designed by the director himself and will be on display in Leicester Square.
Spielberg said: “All kids deserve to have the chance to dream big so I’m delighted to be a part of The BFG Dream Jar Trail so that we can share our dreams together and support the work of Save the Children across the world.”
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall ‘s dream of sharing the magic of books has been brought to life by the renowned art director Michael Howells. The Duchess said: “The power of a good story is immense. It starts a voyage of discovery into different worlds that broadens and stimulates our minds. My dream is that every child learns to read and discovers the lifelong pleasure of books.”
The unique art trail, which has been jointly organised by Save the Children, the Roald Dahl Literary Estate, Entertainment One and VisitLondon.com and supported by Unilever, will be on display in London and other parts of the UK from 9thJuly to 31 August. The auction will launch alongside the film’s premiere on 17th July at paddle8.com/bfg
Among the places hosting jars are The Museum of Modern Art in Glasgow, The Lowry in Manchester, The Hayes shopping area in Cardiff and world-famous London landmarks such as Trafalgar Square, the Tower of London, Leicester Square, Harrods, Emirates Stadium and The Shard.
The BFG tells the extraordinary tale of a young girl named Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant County. Together they embark on a marvellous and buckswashling adventure filled with snozzcumbers, dream jars, frobscottle and even the Queen! The mismatched pair form an unlikely friendship that will inspire enormous bravery in the BFG and give Sophie a taste of the family she dreams of. The film stars three-time Tony Award®, two-time Olivier Award, BAFTA and Oscar® winner Mark Rylance as the Big Friendly Giant; Penelope Wilton as the Queen; Rebecca Hall as Mary, the Queen’s handmaid and introduces newcomer Ruby Barnhill as Sophie. It is released in cinemas on 22nd July.
Professor Stephen Hawking based his dream jar on the thoughts of an ancient Chinese philosopher, who questioned whether our dreams are actually reality – a question Professor Hawking says can only be answered if we understand more about the universe.
He added: “It is so important that everyone has the chance to dream, whatever their age and no matter where they live. I’m proud to share my dream about discovering the secrets of the universe and I am delighted that the money raised will give children everywhere the chance to make their own dreams come true.”
Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams’s, ‘A Whale’s Tale’, sees her dreaming of being tiny and swimming alongside a whale. “My dream is to be in my swimming costume underwater, when suddenly out of the blue comes a GIGANTIC SPERM WHALE. He swims right up to me and we are nose to nose. He’s huge and I’m very, very tiny, but we swim along together under the ocean waves.”
One Direction’s Niall Horan’s, ‘Dream Date’, shows him in a hot air balloon floating high with the girl of his dreams above the Irish countryside; “As a little boy, I liked the idea of floating above the trees and looking down on the world from above. Now I like the idea of having someone with me for the ride.”
Models Poppy and Cara Delevingne together with their sister Chloe, chose ‘Sisterhood’ as the theme of their dream: “We are strongest when we are together, our dream is that we will always be close and will support each other’.
Other dream jars include granddaughter of the book’s author and writer in her own right Sophie Dahl’s ‘Happy Jumble of Life’, Simon Cowell’s ‘For the Love of Animals’ actor Helen Mirren’s, ‘Dream of England’, former astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s, ‘Life on Mars’ and Dominic West’s ‘Home is Where the Heart is’.
Initially 34 jars will go on display with others being unveiled in the following two weeks.
Tanya Steele, Interim CEO of Save the Children, said: “Changing the world for children means giving them the chance to dream. That’s why Save the Children works in some of the toughest places in the world to make sure every child gets that chance. We do whatever it takes to help children get the healthiest start in life, providing access to life-changing education and protecting them in times of disaster. We’re thrilled to be a partner of The BFG Dream Jar Trail because, through the money raised, we’ll be able to make sure that more children get the opportunity to fulfil their potential no matter how big their dreams are. Together, we can rewrite the story for children everywhere.”
Charlotte Carroll, Sustainability and Communications Director for Unilever UK, said: “We are excited to be supporting The BFG Dream Jar Trail to help inspire children to dream humungous and splendiferous dreams for a brighter future. At Unilever, we believe in creating a better world where everyone has enough food to eat and no child goes to bed hungry. Where every child lives beyond their fifth birthday and has the right to a happy childhood.”

Hotel industry in Europe keeps a positive trend
July 6, 2016Hotel industry in Europe keeps a positive trend for the first quarter of 2016 despite terrorism fear
The latest ECM-MKG European Destinations Observatory report* points out that for the first quarter of 2016, European hotels keep up the positive trend with a 0.6 point increase in Occupancy Rate and 1% growth in Average Daily Rate** allowing the RevPAR*** to improve by 2%.
Despite widespread growth, contrasts can be observed when it comes to individual country performance. Factors such as the migrant crisis – affecting tourism in certain destinations – and the security environment following the Brussels attacks in March impacted hotel performance in several key destinations across the continent.
While some capitals are affected by the terrorism fear…
As the city was directly hit by terrorism, Brussels’ RevPAR dropped by 7.4%, mostly due to a 5.5 points decrease in Occupancy Rate. Other European capitals, such as London and Berlin, were also affected by these events, raising doubts about European security in the eyes of foreign clientele.
At the same period France (except the capital) regained a growth track especially thanks to RevPAR improvement in the whole country: Reims (+13.1%), Lille (+8.2%) or Marseille (+7.4%), Paris is still recovering from the consequences of the November attacks on tourism with a RevPAR decrease by 9.2%.
… others seem to recover “market shares”
Prague has reached a strong RevPAR, with 18.3% growth for this indicator. The organisation of several international medical trade shows in Prague significantly stimulated hotel performance. Amsterdam was also among the frontrunners in the European landscape (+17.1% in RevPAR), as hotels benefitted from the organisation of the Fespa Digital Amsterdam and other international business events. Budapest also registered positive results, with a 10.7% increase in RevPAR due to gains in Occupancy Rate (+2.7 points) and Average Daily Rate (+5.1%). Polish hoteliers benefited from the European men’s handball championships at the beginning of the year. Warsaw and Poland report increases in the RevPAR by respectively 1.3% and 6.1% on the first quarter. Austria posted a RevPAR increase by 5.7%, it is better than the capital, Wien (+0.6%).
In Northern Europe, Edinburgh observed a RevPAR increase by 7.5%, a trend totally different from London or Liverpool which decreased by 4.5% and 1.8% respectively.
Finally, performance across Southern Europe continued to improve, boasting higher results than in the 2015 first quarter. RevPAR in Lisbon grew by 2.4%, it strongly increased in Spain with San Sebastian (+34%), Zaragoza (+25.9%), Malaga and Seville (+21.7%), Barcelona (+16%) and Madrid (+12.8%). Rome and Turin are on a positive trend, with RevPAR increase by 2.4% and 4.2%.
