Air Quality is Safe in the Hawaiian Islands

June 15, 2018

“Air Quality is Safe in the Hawaiian Islands” – Hawaii Governor David Ige and State’s Top Health Official

HONOLULU – Knowing travelers are expressing concerns about emissions from Kilauea volcano, Hawaii Governor David Ige and State Department of Health Director Dr. Virginia Pressler emphasized today that the air quality of the Hawaiian Islands is safe and should not dissuade them from booking vacations.

Dr. Pressler commented, “The air quality for the vast majority of the Hawaiian Islands is clean and healthy. The emissions from Kilauea volcano are a non-factor for Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kauai. The weather is beautiful and warm with cooling trade winds everywhere in Hawaii and is exactly what travelers expect when coming here for a relaxing and fun vacation experience. This includes Hilo, Pahoa and the Kona and Kohala coasts on the island of Hawaii.

“The areas where precautions are required for people are in lower Puna where lava is flowing and downwind from there on the island of Hawaii, particularly if they have respiratory problems. Because of heavy emissions of vog, as well as occasional bursts of ash plumes from the Kilauea summit, the southeast portions of the island are also routinely experiencing concerning conditions. Those visiting areas south of Hilo should stay alert for air quality updates, especially when wind conditions change. Fortunately, when trade winds are blowing, the vog and ash routinely move in a southwesterly direction and out to sea away from the Hawaiian Islands.”

Governor Ige stated, “Hawaii’s air quality is being closely monitored on a continuing basis by scientists, meteorologists and the Hawaii State Department of Health. This team of experts says the air quality in the Hawaiian Islands is safe for residents and visitors, except in the affected areas.

“Two other topics that I want to alleviate people’s concerns about are laze and the Puna Geothermal Venture plant. Laze is a natural reaction that occurs whenever lava flows into the ocean as it is doing now and has from time to time over the past 35 years. This is all part of nature’s way of creating new land for life to grow. Laze is limited to the area where the lava meets the ocean and is not a danger to people who keep a safe distance away.

“At the Puna Geothermal Venture plant, the state is actively directing protective actions to reduce the risk from lava flows moving nearby. The underground wells have been sealed and secured minimizing the threat to the safety of people and communities.

“The bottom line is that there is no reason for travelers to avoid making their vacation plans in the Hawaiian Islands due to safety concerns because of Kilauea volcano.

“Visitors will be welcomed with open arms and treated to the hospitality, aloha, warmth and natural beauty that is found everywhere in Hawaii. The only area to avoid is lower Puna where the eruption is ongoing.”

George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), echoed the governor’s sentiment in welcoming visitors to Hawaii. “We understand the concern some travelers may have about coming to Hawaii while Kilauea volcano is so much more active at this time. But we encourage everyone to do their research and rely on trusted federal, state and county resources that are providing truthful, accurate information about what is taking place in Hawaii. Those who do will find that coming to Hawaii is a smart decision to enjoy a wonderful summer vacation.”

Kilauea has been an active volcano since 1983 and is one of Hawaii’s most popular attractions. Over the years residents and visitors have been drawn to the wonder of seeing nature at work in the creation of new land via tours or visits to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Most of the park is currently closed until further notice.

About Villa Lena

Founded by contemporary art collector Lena Evstafieva, her musician husband Jérôme Hadey and their friend Lionel Bensemoun, a successful entrepreneur and founder of the hip Parisian nightclub Le Baron, Villa Lena aims to bring together their experiences in entertainment, music, art, film and other creative fields in one place. Art and culture are at the heart of the project and the estate is a creatively inspiring and serene place both for individuals and families, with a diverse and international context for the guests and the artists of Villa Lena.

The restoration of Villa Lena commenced in 2013. Interior designer Clarisse Demory revived the living spaces by recycling and restoring some of the existing Tuscan furniture combined with vintage mid-century pieces. This eclectic “neo folk” style creates a fresh and uncluttered atmosphere throughout the hotel. Rooms are designed with an emphasis on easy chic and spaces are filled with vintage pieces, recycled furniture and art produced at the residency.

Offering multiple places to stay and to rest and enjoy your break, guests are invited to rent apartments or houses which are spread over the estate, including rooms in converted stables, self-contained apartments, and private houses. San Michele is located right in the centre of the property, next to the main pool and with the views of either the 19th century villa or Tuscan rolling hills. San Michele rooms have been renovated in the winter of 2016/17 and offer en-suite and shared bathrooms with AC and wifi. Santa Maria is a former hunters lodge recently renovated; Santa Maria now houses four modest one bedroom apartments. Renacchi is set within 10-minute walking distance from the heart of the property and is ideal for a family holiday. It houses 6 individual apartments, each fully equipped with their own kitchen and dining area. The pool and an outdoor wood fire grill area are perfect for evening BBQ’s, which can be used by all guests, as well as a kid’s park. Fattoria houses ancient stables remodelled into apartments with high ceilings, terraces and tall fireplaces and Stento and Stentino are two separate houses with a shared pool 15 minutes’ walk from the centre.

DUBAI BEGINS COUNTDOWN TO HOST 2018 ICCA CONGRESS

November 22, 2017

DUBAI BEGINS COUNTDOWN TO HOST 2018 ICCA CONGRESS

  • Conclusion of congress in Prague marks the official handover to Dubai
  • Dubai will host the event’s 57th edition in November 2018

Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 22 November 2017: Dubai is gearing up to host the 57th Congress of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) next year, following the conclusion of this year’s edition in Prague. Dubai was named host city for the 57th ICCA Congress in 2014, following a successful bid for the event that was led by Dubai Business Events and Dubai World Trade Centre. To be held from 11 – 14 November 2018 at Dubai World Trade Centre, the congress will see meeting industry professionals from all over the world gather in Dubai to discuss key challenges and opportunities within the business events industry.

A delegation from Dubai received the formal handover from hosts in Prague during the closing ceremony of the Congress on November 15. At the ceremony, Dubai representatives, including Steen Jakobsen, Director of Dubai Business Events, and Mahir Julfar, Senior Vice President, Venues Management at Dubai World Trade Centre, presented Dubai’s unique facets to attending ICCA members and delegates. An earlier session saw Marjan Faraidooni, Senior Vice President of Legacy Impact and Development at Expo 2020 Dubai, discuss the legacy that will be left after the conclusion of the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia region.

Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase Dubai’s most recent advances as a world-class city with unrivalled connectivity to key industry bodies from around the world. Hosting business events forms a core part of our sustainable economic diversification efforts, and is a key driver in our Tourism Vision for 2020. We look forward to welcoming ICCA delegates next year and hosting an event that plays an important role in the development and growth of the business events industry.”

As Dubai’s visitor offerings continue to evolve, the city is developing a range of new attractions, hotels, venues and infrastructure projects that are set to bolster Dubai’s standing as a global hub for tourism and business events. Dubai has seen a consistent rise in business and tourism figures, becoming the fourth most visited city in the world in 2016, with 14.9 million overnight visitors last year. In the first 9 months of 2017, the city welcomed 11.58 million international visitors, up more than 7.5% on the same period last year.

ICCA CEO Martin Sirk said: “The timing of ICCA’s Congress in Dubai couldn’t be better. Economies throughout the Gulf and Middle East are going through huge changes to their business models and are diversifying into a wide range of exciting new sectors; association-related meetings activity is bubbling up across trade, healthcare and high-tech scientific sectors, thanks to both home-grown demand and driven by expansion and outreach from US and European organisations; and we’ll arrive when preparations for Expo 2020 Dubai are reaching a critical point, providing all manner of experiential meetings-related content for our members to think about. We’re very excited to bring the world of ICCA to Dubai in 2018!”

Business events continue to play a key role in achieving Dubai Tourism Vision 2020 and UAE Vision 2021. These ambitious plans outline concrete steps to further develop the city into a global knowledge hub that advances a range of key industries and drives innovation across vital global sectors. With Dubai’s sustained successes as a destination of choice, business events play an increasingly prominent role in the national agenda of economic diversification and establishing a knowledge-based economy.

Berlin plant Konferenz Q Berlin Questions

August 8, 2017

Berlin plant Konferenz Q Berlin Questions
