The DMC Network and Ovation’s 5th Annual Talent Search ‘Raises the Roof’ at IMEX America
The DMC Network and Ovation Global DMC’s 5th Annual Talent Search kicked off on the Tuesday evening of IMEX America in Las Vegas last week. Taking place in the Marquee Night Club at The Cosmopolitan hotel, this year’s event drew its largest ever crowd ever, welcoming over 900 delegates from the show to celebrate Las Vegas as a destination.

‘’This year’s event was all about Las Vegas’’ shared Dan Tavrytzky, Managing Director of the DMC Network. ‘’The tragic events of the week prior were upsetting on so many levels. We as destination professionals know just how valuable tourism is for the Las Vegas economy, and how important it is to show support immediately after an event like this. We knew we wanted to acknowledge the victims and their families in a way that still supported the destination – cancelling our event would not have done that so we decided to change the format from our traditional talent search, where industry delegates from around the world compete for the title of best performance and travel prize, and use our already well established evening to showcase local Las Vegas talent -giving them the opportunity to shine and highlight that the city is open for business, while also partnering with the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada to raise much needed funds for the destination through a raffle for all attendees.’’

Guests were treated to an energetic show by three local Las Vegas bands, each showcasing their own unique take on popular music, with an esteemed panel of industry judges from Experient, Marriott International, Switzerland Convention and Incentive Bureau and Meeting Professionals International (MPI). Raffle tickets were sold to win a 5 night stay at the Westin Paris and air travel or a year’s membership with MPI, while the crowd was entertained with energetic covers into the morning hours. Local band ‘STATUS’ was ultimately crowned the winners at the end of the evening.

Speaking of the win, this year’s winning band said ‘’We are honored to receive the trophy at this year’s show. At a time when Las Vegas needs support more than ever before, it is wonderful to see companies continuing to come to the destination and host their events – it sends a real, tangible message to the world that we are here and we are open for business. Our city’s economy is built on tourism so there is nothing more valuable than this kind of support’’

Judge Darren Temple, Chief Operating Officer of MPI is quoted as saying: ‘’MPI has been involved in the Talent Search since its inception 5 years ago. The change in format this year was something we were very supportive of – MPI’s membership base is a global one, and we all travel as a part of our careers – any opportunity to showcase local destination support as a wider industry group is one that we are happy to support.’’

Following the event, the dates for the 6th Annual Talent Search were announced as Tuesday the 16th of October 2018, and as always, in conjunction with IMEX America.

The DMC Network Celebrates Third Annual Exchange in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Third Annual DMC Network Exchange took place August 23 – 26, 2017 with 110 clients and DMC Network partners coming together in the wonderful city of Indianapolis, Indiana. Accent Indy, the DMC Network partner for the destination, created and hosted the group in their hometown state.

Previously held in Los Cabos and Lake Tahoe, the three-day educational and networking event included unique experiences at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where guests were invited to ride around the track with professional drivers and kick a field goal at Lucas Oil Stadium. Attendees also got to experience ‘Indy like a local’ through a variety of planned afternoon activities that included a bike tour and Segway tour through Indy’s cultural trail, visiting top local Breweries and golfing in the sunshine, to name just a few. In addition, the DMC Network partnered with Teachers Treasures to create a give-back experience for the attendees that provided much needed school supplies and backpacks to the community of Indianapolis.

Educational sessions on the US Economy with Economist Chris Kuehl and a panel discussion with Michael Dominguez (Chief Sales Officer of MGM Resorts International), Leonard Hoops, (President and CEO of Visit Indy), Kevin Hinton, (Chief Executive Officer for SITE) and Darrell Tamosuinas, (President of Teneo Hospitality Group) on crisis management, current trends and destination marketing ensured both DMC Network partners and their clients were given plenty of food for thought.

The city of Indianapolis truly shone during the program with exceptional dining experiences at St. Elmos and Char Blue as well as signature themed evening events including Indypalooza and a Classic 80’s dinner with guest appearances by “Prince” and “Michael Jackson”!

The DMC Network’s tagline, ‘’We’re there for you!” came into special relief at the event as an expression of each partner’s commitment to their clients but also to their destination. “DMC Network members share a deeply held conviction that our brand promise has to be more than mere lip service. It must be lived out in how we treat our people, our teams, our clients, and particularly, our destination. This clearly means giving back to the communities we depend upon for the work we do” said Dan Tavrytzky, Managing Director of the DMC Network.

Accent Indy President, Shannon Gardiner, DMCP added “In the case of Indianapolis, we invited all of our guests to participate in a healthful “Rise & Shine” program each morning that included walking tours of the city, canal by sunrise and gentle flow Yoga. During the program, several local non-profit associations were invited to meet with the DMC Network team and Industry press in an effort to give profile to the amazing work that is being done locally to make Indianapolis the warm and welcoming city that it is today. Teacher’s Treasures, Dress for Success, Back on My Feet Indianapolis, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and PUP (People for Urban Progress) were all a part of this year’s program.” At the end of an action packed, thought provoking and truly “purposeful” 3 days, Matt Cuevas, incoming Chair for the DMC Network in 2018 officially announced the destination for the Fourth Annual DMC Network Client Exchange: Panama, June 28th – July 1st 2018.

Today at IMEX America, following a year long consultation with its partners and clients, the DMC Network launched its new brand identity and website. Anchored on a simple but powerful strapline, “We’re there for you”, the new identity highlights the uniqueness of the DMC Network as a partnership of fully accredited, owner-managed, legacy destination management consultants.

“The foundations for the project were laid during a board retreat almost a year ago during which we clarified, tweaked and re-stated our vision to be the industry’s  most reliable, trustworthy and consistent global community of destination management companies. Our clients hire us for our local knowledge and expertise, to be there for them and deal with all the unexpected things that happen during live program operation” said Shannon Gardner, Chairwoman of the DMC Network and President of Accent Indy.

NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR OVATION’S 2015 HUGGABILITY AWARD

Now in its seventh year, Ovation’s annual Huggability Award has seen the great and the good of the international MICE industry recognised not only for their achievements, but for their personality, their attitude and their downright loveliness!

Nominations are now open to find a worthy and huggable successor to the 2014 Huggability Award winner Chris Baker.

Chris took home the huggability crown last year due to his ability to get the job done no matter where the credit goes. Like any good destination expert, he exudes an unwavering passion for his home city of Chicago and always acts as an avid ambassador for the city. It will be a tough task this year to find someone as passionate, welcoming and huggable as Chris,” commented Aoife Delaney, Director of Global Sales at Ovation Global DMC.

As always, Ovation Bear will be sharing the nominations received for the 2015 award as soon as they are received. Keep an eye on the nominations board to see who is in the running to be crowned Most Huggable Person 2015.

It’s Huggability Season and the search is on to name Ovation’s Most Huggable Person 2012. Nominations are now open to find a worthy and huggable successor to popular 2011 award winner Samme Allen, Head of Sales, Business Events at the Barbican Centre London and President of MPI’s UK & Ireland Chapter.
