THE WORLD COMES TOGETHER TO HAVE FUN FUN FUN IN BARCELONA

One of the key highlights of the week in Barcelona at ibtm world (www.ibtmworld.com) is the number of social events that bring a sense of party to the event and connects the international meetings industry community.

It all starts with the Welcome Reception held in partnership with Barcelona Convention Bureau onsite at the venue on the first night of ibtm world.  This year’s theme will be called “Deliciously Barcelona” celebrating the fact that Catalonia has been awarded European Gastronomy Region for 2016, food, music, culture, wine, and the opportunity to party with friends and make new ones.

Exhibitors get to display their culture and brand by creating their own events and parties for Networking Hour on Wednesday 30 November.  This time from 18.00 – 19.00 hrs, the show floor comes alive with music, entertainment, food and drinks from hosted receptions from an array of exhibitors that gives attendees the chance to stayon a while before heading into Barcelona for their own events and a brand new event replacing what has historically been known as club night.  More information about the exhibitor events can be found on the website:
http://www.ibtmworld.com/Programme1/events-features/Networking-events/

This year club night becomes Rendezvous at ibtm world. Holland and the MPI Foundation will turn Opium Mar orange for the night. All proceeds from the event will be invested into the MPI Foundation on scholarships, grants and pan-industry research, all of which will help to secure the future success of the meetings and events industry, so get your ticket now online or at the show from the MPI stand.

“In addition to the networking events that we organise, there are hundreds of exhibitors holding receptions, parties and dinners in Barcelona each evening, providing a multitude of opportunities to have fun and network in this great city, it is fantastic to see ibtm world create a vibrant atmosphere in and around Barcelona” commented Graeme Barnett, Senior Exhibition Director ibtm world.

Meetings Design, Strategic Meetings Management

October 19, 2016
Meetings Design, Strategic Meetings Management and entrepreneurial relationships form the Spanish Education at ibtm world
This year’s Spanish sessions, part of the ibtm world Knowledge Programme, to be delivered at ibtm world (www.ibtmworld.com) is set to educate and inspire local attendees with a series of sessions covering the latest industry hot topics and trends from both a local and international perspective.

Presented in partnership with MPI and their Spanish Chapter, the sessions will include presentations and discussions surrounding three key themes; Business Travel and MICE; Meetings Design through Meetovation; and how planners can help new MICE entrepreneurs

Graeme Barnett – Senior Exhibition Director, ibtm world described “Our partnership with MPI Spain spans many years and they have helped us create sessions that are thought provoking, topical, relevant and are what the Spanish sector wants to learn from.”
Taking part in the ACS Knowledge Village located on the show floor, the themes and topics will include:

Business Travel & MICE: Love and Hate, the path to the SMM
This session will look at the synergies between business travel and the MICE sector, in line with Strategic Meetings Management (SMM). It will focus on three elements: cost reduction, risk management and service quality and how the stakeholders (hotel/venue, TMC, agent planner and corporate planners) understand these potential synergies.

Meetings Design by Meetovation
Meeting Design is one of the most talked-about concepts in our industry. In 2002 a group of leaders from the Danish MICE industry joined forces to create Meetovation to ensure that the meetings were not boring and that organisers obtain better results and ROI. In this session, three industry leaders will address the characteristics of the concept, how it works and look at the success and results of Meetovation

How planners can help MICE entrepreneurs
This session will look into the relationship between planners and agencies and suppliers in the MICE sector. The discussion will focus on how large planners in our sector, those who define events, with large budgets can help the new andstart up entrepreneurs. How can get entrepreneurs reach the big planners?
The ibtm education programme, available to all attendees, was this year created by the industry for the industry from extensive research producing five specific themes of interest to the international MICE community, full details are available onwww.ibtmworld.com.  To register for attendance at ibtm world go tohttp://www.ibtmworld.com/programme

Visit www.ibtmworld.com/techwatch to enter

The next winner of the ibtm world Technology and Innovation Watch Award is about to be found. With just two weeks left for submissions – entries close on 4 September – the industry’s annual global award is open to anyone who has an inspiring and innovative product that could contribute to the future of the meetings industry.

A judging panel will shortlist 10 submissions to be recognised as the ‘Top 10 Innovations to drive the industry forward’. These 10 innovations will be offered the opportunity to feature in the dedicated Innovation Zone at ibtm world. The panel will also vote for one of these top ten to become the Technology and Innovation Watch winner.

Considered by previous winners to be a key platform for launch and awareness of their product, this year’s winner will not only benefit from a global pre- promotional campaign via ibtm world (www.ibtmworld.com), the leading global event for the meetings and events industry, but also a prominent presence in the Innovation Zone, and the opportunity to present their winning product at the show in Barcelona. www.ibtmworld.com/techwatch

Winning the award in 2014, LiveGroup, made the most of the opportunity: “We’re absolutely delighted to have gained such clear recognition for the quality of our work. The award is a ringing endorsement of the extraordinary capabilities of the Live Group’s mobile app, not least the newly launched Locator Function, which we think is set to be a game changer for delegates, clients and venues hosting live events”

Showcasing their products in the Innovation Zone gives companies access to some 15,500 meetings and events industry professionals including exhibitors, Hosted Buyers and visitors. Showslice who took part last year said: “The major change we made was to our income generation and we are now currently growing at a rate of 25% each month. We received a lot of support and insight from various organisations. Being part of the Innovation Zone got us noticed by Shell who gave us £3,000 and the Shell Livewire Sustainability Award in December 2014 considering us to be a smart city solution for events. This has helped us to define our offering further and ensure that we always provide our clients with a professional service that brings the industry together.”

Graeme Barnett, Senior Exhibition Director commented: “Since its creation, the Innovation Zone has always been a great showcase of the creativity, passion and drive needed to create real change within the meetings and events industry. It is also an opportunity to secure real business with Hosted Buyers, trade visitors and even exhibitors, all wanting to see how this part of the industry can improve their own business. Many young companies have had the opportunity to be part of the discussions, to uncover potential and to connect with the innovative and the influential.

Free to enter, the application process for submissions is now open at http://www.ibtmworld.com/techwatch. Entry for the ibtm world 2015 Technology and Innovation Watch Award will close on Friday 4th September.

EIBTM 2014 ends year on a high

November 28, 2014

EIBTM 2014 ends year on a high

Business boom returns to the show floor
New show name for 2015 – ibtm world

EIBTM closed last Thursday with over 15,500 (8% increase on 2013) industry professionals onsite for the three days of the show. With over 80% of attendees (excluding exhibitors) coming from Europe, the trend underlines the American Express Meetings & Events 2015 Global Forecast presented to over 200 global industry thought leaders on the eve of the first day of the event. The report indicated that the number of meetings in Europe is predicted to increase.

At the same time, trade visitor numbers are also up by nearly 8%. EIBTM attracted nearly 70% of trade visitors from Spain supporting the country’s positive economic recovery which was highlighted in the same report. Some 78,436 pre-scheduled appointments and, for the first time, self select were made between Hosted Buyers and exhibitors, a 20% increase over last year.

Association planners are also forecasting an increase in their meetings activity, and this year’s show has seen the highest number of independent Association planners attending with 67% of the 271 planners coming from individual associations and societies, overall the event saw an increase of 12% in attendance by Association Hosted Buyers helped by the launch of a more flexible approach to this year’s Buyer programme, with the introduction of My Association | My Club.

Jeton Iseni, European Project Manager, European Huntington’s Disease Network, who participated in the Association programme commented; “I am very pleased with the new flexibility for Association Buyers this year, especially around our appointments diary. The difference is that it has given us a great opportunity and time to meet with others in the industry, share knowledge and network.”

Business optimism across the show floor was also reported by exhibitors, many of whom rated EIBTM as their best trade show of the year.

Jim Hensley, CEO, Global DMC Partners; “EIBTM is the strongest and busiest show in our trade show calendar. We´ve had more appointments each day here than we have had in entire trade shows. The buyers we have seen have been good quality and most importantly ready to do business with proposals in place, rather than general enquiries. We are very optimistic about the future business we will place thanks to EIBTM.”

David Chalmers, Marketing Director Europe for Cvent inc; “We have been oversubscribed on appointments this year making it our best ever EIBTM. All members of our sales team have fed back on the fantastic quality of buyers whom they have met with and a significant amount of business has been made here as a result of that.”

In Rob Davidson’s annual Industry Trends Report, he highlighted the optimism of the mood in the U.S. meetings market as “very positive according to various studies”. Supporting this trend for business, Deanne Boynton Grupp, VP Tourism for Scottsdale Convention & Visitors Bureau commented; “it’s been the best EIBTM for many years in terms of number of appointments, quality and the diverse nationalities of buyers wanting to do business with us.”

This year’s new EIBTM concierge service was also recognised as an important initiative: Isabel Agrelo, Communication Manager, Global Sales Division, Accor; “We have been extremely busy at EIBTM with over 800 appointments across the three days. We have met with some very interesting sales leads and there will be some positive contracts to come. The new concierge service provided by EIBTM this year has been extremely useful to us, helping us find a solution to every problem straight away. We can´t wait to return in 2015.”

Newcomer to EIBTM, The Faroe Islands was looking to find business from the event and Annleyg Lamhauge, Marketing Manager – MICE, Visit Faroe Islands commented: “It has been our first time exhibiting at EIBTM and we have been very popular with a lot of interest in our stand. We are finding there is a demand for smaller meetings groups and this works well with our destination. There is a trend to visit the Nordic countries and the surrounding islands. We have met with a lot of good quality buyers at EIBTM and are looking forward to 2015.”

“You really couldn’t miss the buzz on the show floor this year which I hope was a result of not only economic confidence but also from new initiatives such as the fact that this year exhibitors could top up their diaries with appointments they had requested with buyers – the first time we have trialed this,” commented Graeme Barnett, EIBTM Senior Exhibition Director.

Finally from the close of this year’s show, EIBTM is to be rebranded as ibtm world – where connections mean everything. Ibtm world will join its sister events ibtm arabia, ibtm Africa, ibtm america, ibtm china and ibtm india under the ibtm events umbrella along with AIME in Melbourne and the recently announced ICOMEX in Mexico.

Announcing the new name for EIBTM, Graeme Barnett said; “We’ve emphasised the fact that it’s a global show. Whatever markets our clients are looking to connect with, we’ve got most of the globe covered”. Together the events in the newly branded ibtm portfolio annually provide access to more than 5,000 suppliers from 100 countries, 19,000 event organisers and more than 110,000 pre-scheduled meetings take place.

** All EIBTM attendee numbers will be independently verified and audited post show

ibtm world will take place in Barcelona from 17-19 November 2015.

LEADING INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS TO ATTEND EIBTM

October 31, 2014

LEADING INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATIONS TO ATTEND EIBTM
MY ASSOCIATION | MY CLUB ATTRACTS GLOBAL ATTENTION

OKTOBER 2014 – A new initiative launched for the Association Sector by EIBTM has garnered support from the industry across the world and attracted a global representation of Buyers who are now registered to attend EIBTM 2014. My Association | My Club was announced in the summer to give a more flexible option to an Association Planner’s business and networking agenda at this year’s event in Barcelona from 18-20 November.

Association Buyers with average budgets between US$1m & US$5m and some as high as US$20m, have joined the programme which will see 20 countries represented including US, China, UK, Canada, Russia, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France. The key elements of My Association | My Club have been designed in consultation with Association Planners through research and a dedicated Focus Group meeting.

Commenting on the new approach to the Association sector, Patrick Debus, Permanent Secretary World Federation of Consuls said: “I can only congratulate the EIBTM Team for having launched “MY ASSOCIATION / MY CLUB“, this new initiative is fully answering and definitively taking more care of the Association Planner’s expectations and I can only congratulate the team for such a useful and highly appreciated concern.”

Another participant from the Association Focus Group commented: “The new My Association | My Club programme is unique, as it is specifically tailored to the Association Executive, allowing optimal networking while offering maximal flexibility. The Club Lounge on the show floor and the Educational Sessions will allow to maximise interactions with fellow Executives and Exhibitors. No doubt this will enhance the return on investment of Exhibitors as well as Association Buyers.”

Richard Holmes, International Director of Meetings of International League against Epilepsy, added: “I am delighted to see that many of the suggestions from the Association Focus Group have been taken on board and incorporated into the planning of EIBTM 2014. By hosting Buyers at the same hotel and benefits such as the Association Hub, I expect to have greater opportunities to meet with other Association Buyers whom I might not get a chance to catch up with on the show floor. I hope that more flexible scheduling will allow me to maximise my limited time, meeting with more partners and suppliers at the show.”

Priority has been given to “flexibility” a key request that came out of the research. Each Association Planner can now control their own itinerary, through choosing what they do, allowing time to explore the show, choose their own meetings and appointments and add to them as they wish in their own Association Hub – a dedicated Club Lounge on the show floor. With dedicated networking, and their own host hotel, the Association Club also means that the attendees get to be together throughout their attendance at EIBTM 2014.

Whilst the Association Planners will continue to have their own dedicated education sector sessions, they will also have the flexibility to attend any of the EIBTM Knowledge Programme, defining which best suit their own business – another request that was made from those who participated in the research.

“We are delighted by the response from the international Association sector, since we announced the launch of My Association | My Club. It was clear from the Focus Group held to determine and discuss what they wanted from their industry event, that we needed to think big and make some fundamental changes. We have, and we hope that EIBTM 2014 will be exactly what they want from their stay with us in Barcelona, and that our suppliers will obviously benefit as well from this more flexible approach,” said Graeme Barnett, EIBTM Senior Exhibition Director, Reed Travel Exhibitions.

“More than ever, EIBTM is definitively the key Event for Associations Meeting Planners to meet the World, and their world, in the most enjoyable and fruitful conditions,” added Debus.

EIBTM EXHIBITORS CAN NOW SELECT THEIR OWN APPOINTMENTS WITH HOSTED BUYERS

October 31, 2014

EIBTM EXHIBITORS CAN NOW SELECT THEIR OWN APPOINTMENTS WITH HOSTED BUYERS
NEW #BeAwesome #EIBTM14 CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES

From October 22nd, EIBTM opens its online diary between exhibitors and Hosted Buyers. For the first time exhibitors will now be able to request additional appointments with Hosted Buyers following the initial appointment match. Once logged in to their diaries exhibitors can browse Hosted Buyer profiles and select those that they would like to request a meeting with and the time at which they’d like to meet them. Hosted Buyers will have the option to accept or decline these additional appointments.

“For the first time at EIBTM we are able to offer this major business opportunity to exhibitors, EIBTM has been working on the programme over the past year and the self select appointments give our exhibitors a great opportunity to connect with buyers that they want to meet with, and also extra visibility ahead of the show. Research told us that this was one of the key changes they wanted to see at EIBTM and we have delivered it for the first time this year,” said Graeme Barnett, EIBTM Senior Exhibition Director, Reed Travel Exhibitions.

EIBTM is also planning to launch a major social media initiative at the same time to engage with its online community in advance of the show. #BeAwesome #EIBTM14 encourages attendees to share how they are planning to #BeAwesome #EIBTM14 at this year’s event, whether from a business or personal perspective.

“EIBTM is not just about business, we are probably the single biggest industry community event with some 15,000 of us in Barcelona over much of the week, there will be a big buzz on the show floor, lots of fun at the networking events and of course Club Night, we think EIBTM is awesome in many ways, and we want the community to get involved by posting their selfies and comments as well as following ours, it’s a big social media opportunity for everyone attending,” added Barnett.

EIBTM 2014 will take place from 18th – 20th November.

I have been attending EIBTM for 17 years and I will definitely be here in 2014.”
