The number of congresses in Istanbul has risen by 280% during the past ten years and this increase is expected to continue as Istanbul CVB work towards making Istanbul one of the most desirable destinations in the world for the meetings industry. Istanbul has A Tale of Two Cities to tell at Meetings Show

LONDON (July 2015) – The Istanbul Convention and Visitors Bureau (ICVB) is excited to have kicked off presenting Istanbul at the Meetings Show in London today at one of the world’s top shows for meetings, conventions and incentives to press, buyers, meeting and event decision-makers. Meeting with the press and buyers at a well-attended conference today, Istanbul CVB shared news and trends on Istanbul’s latest developments and investments, including up-to-date statistics, together with the bureau’s recent global marketing campaign. Istanbul CVB is taking place in Turkey stand J19.

Latest ICVB Visitors Guide Out Now

LONDON (15 June 2015) – Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau (ICVB) has published its Istanbul Visitors Guide aiming to offer a different experience for visitors to the city. The guide contains sections on history, entertainment, accommodation, shopping, eating, drinking and the arts for a city that last year welcomed close to 12 million tourists. It is designed to appeal to both congress delegates and general visitors as an indispensable guide to Istanbul.

This detailed guide to Istanbul showcases the city’s must-see historical sites, museums and events as well as its history, entertainment, accommodation, shopping, eating, drinking and the arts. The most widely circulated guide to Istanbul, it offers visitors to the city a wide range of alternatives on how to spend their time there.

The newly-designed Istanbul Visitors Guide, with a circulation of more than 100,000, is also available as a user-friendly mobile application and will be distributed at trade fairs around the world, ICVB member hotels and high-profile congresses thereby reaching readers both in Istanbul and around the world.

ICVB’s General Manager Ozgul Ozkan Yavuz says of the mobile application: “We have launched our new Istanbul Visitors Guide with a user-friendly mobile application which is the first of its kind. In a guidebook format it brings together a world of information in digital offering a whole new experience to readers. Prepared in a downloadable format, the guide can be used without an internet connection. We have added a QR code to it allowing users to browse ferry times, get information about events in the city from such websites as howtoistanbul.com and find directions from their current location in Istanbul or to be directed on to relevant websites. The Istanbul Visitors Guide is available as a colourful application with audio, video and moving images and a QR code marking it as an alternative media channel providing much more choice for travellers.

Istanbul CVB’s General Manager Joins Board of European Cities Marketing

LONDON (11 June 2015) <strong>– Istanbul Convention and Visitor Bureau’s General Manager, Ozgul Ozkan Yavuz, has been appointed as one of the 14 members of the Board of European Cities Marketing in Annual Conference and General Assembly last week in Turin (3-6 June 2015).

Yavuz says: “I’m delighted to become a member of the Board of European Cities Marketing and look forward to sharing Istanbul’s experiences as a top international meetings destination and in turn learning from other European cities as part of ECM’s vision in sharing knowledge. This year’s ECM Annual Conference and General Assembly was on the theme of ‘Creating the city – How new events and infrastructure projects can change the image’ and we had a strong insight of the feedbacks on the combination of both events and investments and their effects on the city. ECM is a strong platform which can bring development in both city tourism and meeting industries.”

LONDON (April 2015)Istanbul Convention and Visitor Bureau’s (ICVB) General Manager Ozgul Ozkan Yavuz moderated the Destination Marketing panel at this year’s World Tourism Forum in Istanbul which included leaders of tourism from around the world.

Delegates from all four corners of globe
The World Tourism Forum (WTF) was held for the first time in Istanbul on 30 April at the Shangri-La Bosphorus hotel with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Delegates from Europe, USA, Russia, the Caucasus and Azerbaijan discussed the future of tourism at the forum.

The forum was opened by President of the WTF Bulut Bagcı and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Director of General Promotion Irfan Onal with topics covered including Advertising Solutions for Tourism, Online Tourism, The Effects of Policy on Health Tourism & Health Tourism, New Visions in Aviation, New Generation Hotel Management, Technological Solutions in Tourism and Destination Marketing. Director of General Promotion for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Irfan Onal, spoke on Strategies in Promoting Turkey.

Future of Destination Marketing
The ICVB brought to the agenda the marketing of cities from both the point of view of the congress and tourism sectors, working to bring the experience of different countries and cities in enriching the discussions. ICVB’s General Manager Ozgul Ozkan Yavuz moderated the Destination Marketing discussion panel of the forum, with speakers including Qatar International Congress Centre’s General Manager Ken Jamieson, Azerbaijan Congress Bureau’s General Manager Florian Sengstschmid and New York City Culture and Tourism Minister Marty Markowitz.

The World Tourism Forum is an annual platform in Istanbul in which international leaders of the tourism industry get together to discuss the future of tourism and to determine new trends and co-ordinate meetings with industry agencies. The purpose of the forum is also to contribute to Turkey’s economic growth through raising the country’s tourism potential thereby increasing Turkey’s market share of international tourism, to transfer new generational models of consumer behaviour to forum participants, to share new technological trends in the tourism sector as well as an international marketing vision with local companies.
