Discovering Guam

November 7, 2017

Discovering Guam
Until very recently not many people could have told you where Guam was located, or even what was there.

Recent political events have certainly changed that.
With intense, global media attention in recent months, however, many outlets like CNN, the BBC and others took the time to really look behind the breaking news. What they found and repeatedly reported on was the amazing people, the beauty of the island, the wonderful attractions and the importance of tourism to its economy.

The stories revealed the special spirit of the nearly 170,000 residents who are predominantly American citizens but who also strongly honor the ancient and vibrant Chamorro culture.

They also unveiled stunning images of the unspoiled, stunning, natural beauty of Guam.

From an economic standpoint, they talked about the growing leisure travel, conference & meeting, and incentive travel market in Guam – propelled not only by its authentic style and unique experience opportunities, but also its modern hotels and convention center and strong technology infrastructure.

Guam will once again have a booth at IMEX America #3041 and is anticipating great interest from event planners and buyers from the US, Asia, Australia and many other regions.

Who’s Been Coming and Why?
In just one example of who’s coming to Guam, the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) & PATA (Pacific Asian Travel Association) held their 2016 Annual Conference in Guam which brought many influential industry leaders to the island, and delighted them with all that Guam has to offer,

Japanese, South Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese and American tourists and incentive groups have also been enjoying their experiences of Guam.

While Guam has more than 8,860 modern hotel rooms and hotels run by leading brands such as Hyatt, Sheraton, Hilton and Westin – as well as the new Guam Convention Center at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort – Guam also has its own distinctive local style which creates memorable events and experiences.

Business and pleasure visitors alike can take in outdoor fiestas featuring traditional, Chamorro food and festivities like fresh caught seafood & edible seaweed, traditional dancing, music and coconut cracking.

Hiking and walking up into the hills of Guam – or “Boonie Stomping” as it’s known locally – uncovers gorgeous flora, fauna and jungle waterfalls. Golf, dolphin watching and water sports like snorkeling and diving are also among the many activities offering a wide range of incentive options.

Guam has also built a strong technology infrastructure with superfast Wifi – bringing together the best of unplugged and fully connected options and activities.

The world is discovering Guam – and that it has plenty to offer.

The DMC Network and Ovation’s 5th Annual Talent Search

October 20, 2017

The DMC Network and Ovation’s 5th Annual Talent Search ‘Raises the Roof’ at IMEX America
The DMC Network and Ovation Global DMC’s 5th Annual Talent Search kicked off on the Tuesday evening of IMEX America in Las Vegas last week. Taking place in the Marquee Night Club at The Cosmopolitan hotel, this year’s event drew its largest ever crowd ever, welcoming over 900 delegates from the show to celebrate Las Vegas as a destination.

‘’This year’s event was all about Las Vegas’’ shared Dan Tavrytzky, Managing Director of the DMC Network. ‘’The tragic events of the week prior were upsetting on so many levels. We as destination professionals know just how valuable tourism is for the Las Vegas economy, and how important it is to show support immediately after an event like this. We knew we wanted to acknowledge the victims and their families in a way that still supported the destination – cancelling our event would not have done that so we decided to change the format from our traditional talent search, where industry delegates from around the world compete for the title of best performance and travel prize, and use our already well established evening to showcase local Las Vegas talent -giving them the opportunity to shine and highlight that the city is open for business, while also partnering with the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada to raise much needed funds for the destination through a raffle for all attendees.’’

Guests were treated to an energetic show by three local Las Vegas bands, each showcasing their own unique take on popular music, with an esteemed panel of industry judges from Experient, Marriott International, Switzerland Convention and Incentive Bureau and Meeting Professionals International (MPI). Raffle tickets were sold to win a 5 night stay at the Westin Paris and air travel or a year’s membership with MPI, while the crowd was entertained with energetic covers into the morning hours. Local band ‘STATUS’ was ultimately crowned the winners at the end of the evening.

Speaking of the win, this year’s winning band said ‘’We are honored to receive the trophy at this year’s show. At a time when Las Vegas needs support more than ever before, it is wonderful to see companies continuing to come to the destination and host their events – it sends a real, tangible message to the world that we are here and we are open for business. Our city’s economy is built on tourism so there is nothing more valuable than this kind of support’’

Judge Darren Temple, Chief Operating Officer of MPI is quoted as saying: ‘’MPI has been involved in the Talent Search since its inception 5 years ago. The change in format this year was something we were very supportive of – MPI’s membership base is a global one, and we all travel as a part of our careers – any opportunity to showcase local destination support as a wider industry group is one that we are happy to support.’’

Following the event, the dates for the 6th Annual Talent Search were announced as Tuesday the 16th of October 2018, and as always, in conjunction with IMEX America.

The IMEX Group – organizers of IMEX America – have announced the dates and locations for their industry leading Las Vegas show through 2025.

Ray Bloom, Chairman of the IMEX Group said, “We know that our industry partners from across North America and around the world plan numerous activities and co-located events around IMEX America. In addition, the fall is a very busy period for the industry. As a result, we felt that it was important to give the industry as much notice as possible with regards to our dates and venues going forward to assist with their own planning.”

In particular, we wanted to remind the industry that we will be moving from our usual October dates to September for two (2) years in 2019 and 2020.”

In addition to confirming the dates, the IMEX Group have also announced that from 2021, after ten successful years at the Sands Expo & Convention Center, IMEX America will move to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.
Ray went on to explain, “The Sands Expo team have been wonderfully supportive partners since well before our inaugural show in 2011 and we are looking forward to four more successful shows working with them, through 2020. Their contribution in helping us to establish IMEX America in Las Vegas as the event where everyone from our industry, from the USA and worldwide, gathers each fall has been invaluable. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and are looking forward to continuing that partnership for many years into the future.

Ray Bloom, Chairman, IMEX Group
However, we were not able to lock in space from 2021 onward. Therefore, after celebrating ten years working together and enjoying a fantastic relationship with the Las Vegas Sands team, we shall be moving to Mandalay Bay. We look forward to establishing successful partnerships with the Mandalay Bay and MGM Resorts International teams and we know that their world-class facilities will be an equally fitting home for the show.

Long standing IMEX partner, the Sands Expo, commented, “As the leader of the meetings and tradeshow industry, we always felt that Las Vegas Sands was the perfect partner to assist in the launch of IMEX,” said Chandra Allison, senior vice president of sales for The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo. “It has been a pleasure helping IMEX grow to become one of the most successful annual events for meeting professionals. The show has evolved, and so has the industry. We recognize this is the right time for the show to move to its next destination. We look forward to continuing our partnership and support of IMEX America in Las Vegas for many years to come.

Talking about their excitement in hosting the show in the future, MGM Resorts International and Mandalay Bay commented, “We are honored to partner with IMEX America and to keep such a prestigious industry event in Las Vegas. As an active supporter of IMEX, MGM Resorts International is excited to create new experiences for attendees at Mandalay Bay. etouches Completes Integration of Loopd with its End-to-End Event Management and Sourcing Platform

May 20, 2017

etouches Completes Integration of Loopd with its End-to-End Event Management and Sourcing Platform
Award-winning Data-Driven Technology Enhances Real-Time Attendee Engagement and Event ROI

NORWALK, Conn., May 2017 etouches, a leading global provider of cloud event management software and sourcing solutions, today announced it has finalized the integration of Loopd technology to create a first of its kind solution to manage every aspect of the event & meeting lifecycle including unprecedented visibility into real-time performance of live events. Combining an exclusive wearable smart badge with bi-directional CRM, data analytics, and mobile technology, Loopd transforms the attendee experience and provides data-driven insights that help meeting planners realize ROI and monetize their events. etouches will demonstrate Loopd’s full capabilities at IMEX Frankfurt taking place May 16-18, 2017.

etouches acquired Loopd in late 2016 to expand its ability to provide data-driven insights that help its customers improve events and attendee engagement in real time. With wearable smart badges and a data analytics engine, Loopd delivers engaging experiences for event attendees while enabling event planners to improve their event strategy through actionable data.

Loopd offers three key components that help event planners enhance attendee engagement and realize event success:

  • Loopd Badge – Award-winning, wearable, smart badges enable fast and easy contact exchange, content collection, and registration for attendees, while capturing attendee interactions, session attendance, event flow traffic, and more all in a sleek, modern package. Small, but powerful, each Loopd Badge measures less than 1.5 inches around and weighs less than 5 grams. With Bluetooth LE connectivity and a two-month battery life, the Loopd badge offers several advantages over other technologies.
  • Loopd App – With a branded, customized mobile event app, organizers can elevate the event experience for attendees, improve engagement, and increase post-event activity. Attendees can use networking features to discover nearby attendees and manage meeting requests.
  • Loopd Engagement & Analytics – Intuitive, in-browser analytics engine allows event organizers to measure and optimize the value and impact of their events. Incorporating the data collected by the Loopd App and Loopd Badge, the analytics engine helps organizers understand attendee activity, attendee journey at the event, engagement, and overall event performance.

People attend events to meet other people, network, and exchange information, but the manual process of collecting business cards and collateral to act on post-event is inefficient and unproductive,” said Brian Friedman, Loopd co-founder and director of product for mobile, data, and engagement for etouches. “Loopd improves the overall attendee experience by facilitating and simplifying the exchange of information and tracking and analyzing attendee engagement. With this integration, event organizers can focus on running great events while etouches captures and analyzes attendee data.

Like the entire etouches event management platform, Loopd is highly flexible, allowing event planners to customize components and how they’re used based on the organizer’s budget and goals. Loopd Hubs are wireless sensors that can be placed at strategic points so organizers can see and measure attendance and traffic flow at a specific session or event. Organizers can easily deliver additional value to their attendees by providing event history, sponsor interactions, session information, speaker multimedia, contact information, and marketing collateral after the event – all collected with the Loopd Badge.

Over the past several years, etouches has built out our event management solution through strategic technology acquisitions and product development with a focus on making events and meetings better for participants, planners, and sponsors,” said Shane Edmonds, CTO of etouches. “With the full power of our EMS platform and mobile event apps integrated with Loopd technology, etouches now offers an unrivaled solution that lets our customers measure every aspect of their event lifecycle, including onsite attendee engagement and satisfaction.”

Recently, etouches announced the company was acquired by HGGC, a leading middle market private equity firm. HGGC’s investment will help etouches expand its business and further invest in its market-leading cloud platform. More than 1,300 customers use etouches’ integrated event management and sourcing platform to organize and execute world-class events around the world. Over the past 12 months, etouches has executed 46,000 events totaling 5.8 million registrations.

A past winner of the IMEX America #IMEXpitch competition, Loopd will be on display at IMEX Frankfurt on May 16 at 4:30 p.m. at etouches’ stand #E660. For more information, visit try.etouches.com/getloopd/.

Exceptional education value will match full-force of business at IMEX in Frankfurt 2017

May 5, 2017

Exceptional education value will match full-force of business at IMEX in Frankfurt 2017

We really value being able to offer inspiration, bringing people together to share ideas, discover new tools and learn new skills. We’re set to deliver this in abundance with our packed programme of education sessions at IMEX this year. Business is set to dominate – as always – but education is a vital force that gives each year’s show a unique personality and edge,” explains Carina Bauer, CEO of the IMEX Group.

With over 200 education sessions taking place throughout the show, including a new dedicated day in the form of EduMonday, IMEX in Frankfurt taking place 16 – 18 May offers its biggest ever education programme. In terms of added value, over 70 per cent of all professional development education at IMEX is certified.

Introducing a brand new education experience – EduMonday
Planners can take part in high quality education the day before IMEX in Frankfurt begins with EduMonday, a brand new education experience taking place on Monday 15 May. With registration free of charge and open to all, this interactive day will provide insights into event design, future trends and hot new technologies, using informal, contemporary learning styles.

IMEX’s EduMonday will feature experts from the new Zeus Eventtech Academy, the German Convention Bureau (GCB), Meetology® Masterclasses and Play with a Purpose. IMEX is also offering the Event Design Certificate Programme Level 1 of Mastery as part of a three-year agreement with the Event Design Collective. This allows 30 English and 30 German-speaking event professionals to take their career to the next level by taking the certification free of charge on the day.

Exploring Purposeful Meetings with first ever keynote
The show’s first ever English language education keynote explores this year’s IMEX Talking Point, Purposeful Meetings. Janet Sperstad from Madison Area Technical College shares the preliminary results of a major piece of industry research into Purposeful meetings research: creating deeper meaning.

Janet Sperstad explains: “Purposeful meetings define planning that produces very specific outcomes and attendee behaviours, in addition to the normal meeting strategy and learning objectives. Delivering more purposeful meetings will help planners create experiences that drive deeper meaning and value for attendees and, of course, clients.” An interview with Janet Sperstad about her career to date and her profound interest in ‘Purposeful Meetings’ can be found here.

Carina adds: “This is the first substantial piece of industry research we’ve undertaken since our 10th Anniversary in 2012, and signifies our confidence in the Purposeful Meetings concept – a concept that’s making waves in the industry and one that we want to explore further with planners at IMEX. The full white paper, with the support of PSAV, will be available at IMEX America in October”.

Free show floor education
A wider programme of free education runs across the three days of the show. Participants can choose from 10 tracks including technology, business skills, diversity and marketing in order to create their own bespoke schedule. MPI is delivering a session on Exploring unique learning formats, IAEE explores The next 40 years of trade shows and Play With A Purpose addresses how to engage younger planners in Interaction for millennials. There are over 200 seminars, including workshops, campfires and bite-sized show-floor education- all designed to help planners at all levels keep a finger on the pulse of the industry.

This includes a session on the results of an exclusive survey into the roles and workplace experiences of women in the event industry run by trade magazines tw tagungswirtschaft and m+a report together with IMEX. Kerstin Wuensch from tw and other industry leaders will explore female leadership, career building and equality in women in the event industry – equal status or lagging behind?

New Waste Watchers initiative will slim down waste and increase recycling at IMEX in Frankfurt

April 28, 2017

New Waste Watchers initiative will slim down waste and increase recycling at IMEX in Frankfurt

IMEX supports Earth Day 2017
IMEX in Frankfurt is introducing several major new sustainability initiatives this year as it continues to innovate and encourage the industry to unite and contribute to greater environmental awareness and social responsibility.

Speaking just before Earth Day 2017 (22 April), Carina Bauer, CEO of the IMEX Group said: “Our approach to sustainability is both to lead by example and to shine a spotlight on key industry campaigns, for example, through our sponsorship of Positive Impact’s campaign to tell the story of the power of events during the United Nations International Year of Sustainable Tourism 2017.

“We’re committed to supporting their target of 2 million shares of the hashtag #shareapositiveimpact, for instance. That means both before and during the show we’ll be inviting everyone to share photos or examples of good sustainable ideas, either in their home communities, on their travels or once they get to Frankfurt. We’re also championing the UNWTO’s call for Ambassadors. They need event pros who are prepared to step up, speak out and advocate sustainable events.

“In practice, we continually seek to develop innovative systems to reduce the ecological impact of our own use of resources and materials. We also encourage and make it easier for exhibitors and buyers to contribute in their own way. We work closely with our partners including GMIC, Messe Frankfurt, Meet Green and The Venetian®| The Palazzo® and the Sands Expo® in Las Vegas, to achieve this. It’s a lot of work, for them and for us, but we care and we believe it’s worth it.”

Waste Watchers – a new call to reuse and recycle
A key new initiative at IMEX in Frankfurt (16- 18 May) will be Waste Watchers. Partnering with local non- government organisation ShoutOutLoud, the IMEX team has set up this programme to reduce waste by providing opportunities for everyone to re-use and recycle an extensive range of materials. Leftover food, furniture, stand graphics, flowers and stationery that would usually go to waste can be donated daily and will be distributed to those who need them with the help of a local food network and a refugee support group.

Saving trees, reducing paper
This year IMEX in Frankfurt is saving 2.7 tons of paper by not producing a printed Show Catalogue. Hosted buyers and visitor buyers will be able to find out full information about exhibitors and the vast range of education sessions available from a new Show Planner, by downloading and using the Show App and via the show website.

Printing badges on paper rather than card will further reduce the show’s environmental footprint, as will the use of hydroelectricity across the whole show. These innovations are additional to the many sustainability best practices and legacy initiatives which have become established at IMEX in Frankfurt over the years. Full details can be found here.

Learning from sustainability experts
IMEX also provides many opportunities for everyone to learn more about sustainability. Among the many sessions on offer will be: Global Destinations Sustainability Index: Driving Performance and Competitiveness, by Guy Bigwood of MCI. He’ll explain his company’s partnership with ICCA and how the Global Destinations Sustainability Index helps drive sustainable practices.

Founder of Positive Impact, Fiona Pelham, whose company has created a “bold year-long campaign” for 2017 will also talk about ‘The Power of Events in the UN International Year of Sustainable Tourism’.

New IMEX GMIC Innovation in Sustainability Award
Also new this year is a new IMEX-GMIC Green Award – the Innovation in Sustainability Award. This is designed to highlight inspiring event professionals who are driving sustainability forwards through innovation, collaboration and idea sharing. It will be presented to the winner at the Gala Dinner at IMEX in Frankfurt.
Campaigns to reduce waste and encourage sustainability are also implemented at IMEX America and at the IMEX Group offices where in 2016 recycling saved the equivalent of 34 trees and 5,790kg of CO2.

The greening of IMEX America
At IMEX America 2016, the clear measure of the show’s continuing progress in sustainability was its APEX/ASTM score which increased for the 5th consecutive year to 90 per cent of level 1 standards. Decreasing paper use saved the equivalent of 13 trees, energy use per participant was down by 13 per cent and there was an 18 per cent decrease in total carbon emissions.

Carina Bauer, CEO of the IMEX Group comments: “IMEX has always been committed to supporting sustainable and socially responsible practices within the meetings industry, hence measuring our performance against the APEX/ASTM scores, which are tough! We will continue to provide education and awareness to suppliers and buyers within the industry to support the ongoing development of best practice. And we’ll keep on asking more of our partners and suppliers. This really is a game that you win by working together. And it’s one of the reasons why our new IMEX Group strapline is: We Are All Connected.”

Two rising stars at IMEX are continuing the CSR conversation as part of #CSRshareDay, a global Twitter campaign taking place today. @IMEXMilda and @IMEXrog are sustainability champions within IMEX. Join them at 14.00 GMT as part of a live discussion on sustainability.
