Craigen opens new INNOCEAN start-up agency in Berlin

17 June 2016: Continuing to push his creative agenda at INNOCEAN, Jeremy Craigen is set to launch a new office in Berlin. Principally it will operate as a creative hub for INNOCEAN’s European agencies in Frankfurt, London, Madrid, Istanbul, Moscow, Paris and Milan, developing pan-European work for its Hyundai and Kia clients.

But Craigen has added expectations, “For starters, Berlin is gunning for the title ‘start-up hub of Europe’, so what better city to open an office. And we’re approaching every aspect of the set up and operation of this new agency with the start-up spirit; new space, new people and new ways of taking our clients brands to market.”

To creatively lead the new operation, Craigen has appointed Rich Muntz as Chief Creative Officer. Previously at J. Walter Thompson, Muntz lead a creative and new business resurgence of the agency brand in Melbourne, with multiple wins at Cannes, D&AD, Effies, Spikes, AdFest, OneShow and Clios and a string of new business wins. He was then seconded to set up sister agency BlueHive Australia to relaunch the Ford brand.

With every exchange I have with Jeremy and the euro and global teams, I’ve got to know what makes INNOCEAN tick. They’re supper hungry to do great work, incredibly open to new methods of working and hell bent on upping the creative product and growing business. I am, in equal measure, honoured and excited by the opportunities,” said Muntz of the new role.

The new Berlin hub is set to open in September of this year.

First EDGE Seminar resounding success

First EDGE Seminar resounding success

It was with some trepidation that I agreed to host the first EDGE Seminar” commented Jan Tonkin, MD of The Conference Company, “as New Zealand is often perceived to be a faraway destination, possibly even on the edge of the world. With a new educational offering, I felt this might be a challenge. I was delighted therefore to well exceed our target numbers, with participants travelling from Zimbabwe and Australia to take part in this innovative environment. The support I received from Tourism New Zealand Business Events and the Auckland Convention Bureau was a major contributing factor to the success of this seminar“.

Michel Neijmann, Figur, Istanbul; Mathias Posch, ICS, Vancouver and Jan Tonkin comprised the international faculty, sharing their extensive experience. Listening to presentations, however, formed only a small part of the programme: interactive and conversational discussion, sharing experiences, deep dive sessions on topics such as Bidding and Serving the Clients of the Future played a key part allowing participants to engage with the themes and bring away insights and strategies that have an immediate impact on the way they work in today’s fast pace environment. Over 40 participants took part, representing an even split between PCOs, Convention Bureaux and venues, engaging in a programme that was intensely focused on the future of the meetings industry and the rapidly changing realities of life as a PCO. Participants took an in-depth look at a range of issues preoccupying the meetings world right now including delegate engagement and experiences, hybrid meetings and managing project finances.

While time to showcase Auckland was limited, the group dined on two occasions at offsite venues and enjoyed great views of the city’s harbour on one side and a park on the other from the daylit meeting room on the top floor of the Pullman Hotel.

EDGE lived up to its name” commented Jan, “this truly was dynamic global education, and I am proud that New Zealand lived up to its reputation as a first-class destination and that IAPCO is continuing its remit of providing expert education for meetings industry professionals”.

The workshops and the presentations that we needed to do were a very good practice for us. We welcomed the comments of experts, we try for sure to learn from the output that was giving to us and furthermore we retain that network and time management is crucial in this sector.”

The ECM Summer School curriculum is tailor-made to cover all sectors of the conference industry (convention bureaux, tourist offices, congress and convention centres, hotels, airlines, DMCs, PCOs and Meeting Planners). The faculty consists of top industry experts who share their collective knowledge and experiences about trends in the marketplace, about the structure of the convention business, and above all about how to win business and pursue a successful career in one of the most dynamic and commercial sectors of the tourist industry: Andrea Bauer (Vereint), Julia Bierwirth (CIM), Nalan Emre (IMEX), Paul Flackett (IMEX), Airy Garrigosa (Barcelona), Elisabeth Hansa (Congress Centre Mariazeller Europeum), Cain Leathem (GB Fitness), Rémy Cregut (Montreux Music & Convention Centre), Christian Mutschlechner (Vienna Convention Bureau), Michel Neijmann (IAPCO), Denis Speet (ICCA), Mathias Sondermann (USI), Anne Wallin Rodven (Oslo Convention Bureau), led by the course leader Pier Paolo Mariotti, CMP CMM.
