Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort Reveals Its Crystal Marquee for MICE & Wedding Sectors

BEL OMBRE, MAURITIUS Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort has unveiled Crystal, a unique meeting space in the south of the island. This new concept opens opportunities for the resort in the events and MICE sector, from meetings and conferences to exceptional gala dinners and weddings.

Crystal is a fully air-conditioned transparent marquee. It measures 33 x 17.5 metres, can seat up to 250 people in banquet style and sits on a rooftop area of the hotel giving a wonderful view of the Bel Ombre coast.

The resort setting is ideal for events: 181 sea-facing rooms offer a breath-taking beachfront location alongside the turquoise lagoons of the Indian Ocean. Nestled in the nature reserve of Bel Ombre, the property is only 45 minutes from the airport,

A permanent structure, Crystal can be adapted for many needs. It can be used as a classic conference venue with pitch-dark option, or semi-transparent with ocean views, both incorporating the latest audio-visual technology.

“Crystal is unique in Mauritius and repositions the Outrigger as a full-on MICE destination for events, incentive meetings, weddings and banquets,” says Cyrille Carmona, Deputy General Manager of the resort. “With Crystal, the sky is the limit.”

The Outrigger, highly acclaimed for its dining, now has five food and beverage venues which can deliver MICE events for up to 250 covers.

Carmona says the key MICE points for the Outrigger are: five food & beverage outlets, including Crystal; all the resort’s rooms and suites are sea facing with a private terrace and balcony; there are spacious beachfront, garden and poolside venues for events; customized menus for beach parties and weddings, all the way up to wine and gala dinners; advanced audio-visual services; technical and secretarial services for businesses; lighting and ambience support; live entertainment, and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort has a dedicated MICE team that tailors proposals and accompanies groups during their events. This team has created a range of original MICE services including team-building activities, nature retreats, personalised wellness experiences, themed gala dinners and private outdoor events.

“With the opening of Crystal at the Outrigger Mauritius Beach Resort I believe we now have a total package – a very compelling proposition for MICE event organisers worldwide,” says Carmona.

December 1, 2015

ANNUAL ASSEMBLY OF THE GREAT WINE CAPITALS: BILBAO-RIOJA
Romotur in their condition as member of the Great Wine Capitals Travel Network has been behind the success of the Annual General Meeting of Great Wine Capitals that has been held in Bilbao- Rioja from the 5th to the 9th of November.
During five days Bilbao- Rioja has been the focus of the wine world where experts and professionals have reunited in order to discuss and compare the different ways and aspects how they live wine, wine making and enotourism, providing an interesting insight for all the assistants.
Amongst the different activities included in the agenda was the First-Ever Enotourism Conference Hosted by Great Wine Capitals in which experts of some of the most successful wineries in the world, such as Mondavi, Zuccardi, Freixenet, Gonzalez Byass, for example, have shared their experiences and practices on the following topics: “Wine Tourism Strategy” and “Successful models for wine tourism”.

The assistants also had the opportunity to enjoy technical visits to more than twenty of the most interesting and diverse wine tourism resources in the area; from centuries old wineries to the most modern and stylish installations where they have discovered the rich and diverse variety that Bilbao-Rioja has to offer as a wine lovers destination.

Romotur has selected the most interesting venues for the different acts such as the welcoming reception in Centro de la Cultura de Rioja or the International Wine Sampling at the Azkuna Zentroa-Alhóndiga, where more than three hundred people tried the finest wines from the Great Wine Capitals. The two masterpieces by the architect Frank Gehry, Marqués de Riscal Winery and The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, held the opening dinner and the final Gala of the Annual Meeting, providing both unique settings for the events.

MELIÁ FAM-TRIP IN BILBAO
Romotur has collaborated with the 5 star Hotel Meliá in Bilbao in the organization of a Fam-Trip for UK agents the past 15 and 16 of November. Eleven agents from some of the most reputed agencies in the field of MICE have been visiting Bilbao and knowing the destination as a future setting for some of their events.

The overall feeling of the participants has been that of a mixture of surprise, for those who had been in Bilbao before and could appreciate how the city has improved since they were last here, and that of discovery, as despite having regular flights to London and other major hubs in Europe, for many it was their first time in the city and did not know what to expect. For all of them it was a pleasant and entertaining experience to be able to get to know more about Bilbao and the interesting possibilities it offers as a MICE destination.

Two Unique Wine Experiences in Bilbao.
Bilbao offers amongst others two unique experiences not to be missed by wine enthusiasts while they are in the city.

Located in the Gran Via, the main street of Bilbao, we encounter one of the world’s few urban wineries: Bodega Urbana. Here you have the chance to select and blend your own wine from the suggesting varieties selected especially by Ana Martin, one of Spain’s leading oenologists. This interesting new concept combines wine making, wine tasting, an interesting selection of wines in its boutique, as well as food thought to be paired by the wines offered.

Crusoe Treasure is inspired on the wines found in shipwrecks that were still drinkable after all the time spent underwater. Their interest in such matter led them to create the first underwater winery in the world to observe the influence of ageing wine on the bottom of the sea. After their initial success with local bottled wines they have progressed to submerge whole barrels for its final ageing in the artificial reef they have created and that now has been colonized and naturalized by many local species of fish and crustaceans. Their wine can be found at some of the most exclusive restaurants in the world.
