IMEX Politicians Forum brings government and leaders together

The increasingly valuable contribution that meetings can make towards national and regional economic development, employment and education and how this will progress over the next 15 years will be the central subject of discussions at the 14th annual IMEX Politicians Forum when it takes place at Hotel Villa Kennedy Frankfurt on Tuesday 19 April.
This unique high-level event will once again bring together up to 40 politicians, including national and regional government ministers, and political influencers with around 80 industry leaders. They will exchange knowledge and best practice on how governments, regions and cities can make the most of the wide-ranging benefits that investment in conferences and meetings can bring, from income and employment to inward investment, education and scientific advancement.
This year the keynote speaker will be Hon Minister Stuart Ayres, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Major Events for New South Wales, Australia. In a speech entitled: ‘How Meetings and Events Can Fulfil Political Optimism’, he will focus on several key areas including the importance of matching business events with trade, investment and export policies.

Minister Ayres said: “I’m excited to address the Politician’s Forum at IMEX in Frankfurt on the major issues affecting our industry. Business events are key drivers for our State – stimulating the knowledge economy; supporting trade and investment; talent acquisition and retention; and fostering sustainable future growth.”
The event is a full day programme with an exclusive VIP guided tour of the IMEX trade show and visits to delegates’ own national or regional stands before and after attending the Opening Ceremony.

The afternoon Forum will open with a Global Exchange of Best Practice at national and regional levels. The Hon Minister Ragnheidur Elin Arnadottir, Minister of Industry and Commerce, Iceland will chair the national level meeting while John Greenway, former Member of Parliament in the UK will lead the regional discussions.
All the delegates will then join together for the main Forum, a Global Exchange of Future Practice, moderated by Michael Hirst OBE, in which all the politicians, government officials and industry leaders will discuss how destinations are preparing for the challenges over the next 15 years and sharing new ideas and thinking.
The IMEX Politicians Forum has over the years proved to be a major catalyst in advancing the understanding of the critical role that the meetings industry plays in many aspects of national and regional development.

Das IMEX Politicians Forum bringt Regierungsvertreter und Veranstaltungsexperten zusammen

Das IMEX Politicians Forum 2016, das dieses Jahr zum 14. mal stattfindet, veranschaulicht den wertvollen Beitrag, den die MICE-Branche (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events) im Bereich der ökonomischen Entwicklung, der Beschäftigungsmöglichkeiten und der Weiterbildung für Länder, Regionen und Gemeinden bietet und beleuchtet, wie sich dies in den nächsten 15 Jahren entwickeln wird.

Dieser hochkarätige Event findet am Dienstag, den 19. April 2016, im Hotel Villa Kennedy in Frankfurt statt und bringt einmal mehr 40 Regierungsvertreter, darunter nationale und regionale Minister sowie politische Berater, mit über 80 Entscheidern der Veranstaltungsbranche zu konstruktivem Austausch und inspirierenden Diskussionen zusammen. Beide Seiten dürfen sich auf fruchtbare Gespräche und viele Beispiele freuen, die aufzeigen, wie Regierungen, Regionen und Städte von Investitionen in den Konferenz- und Veranstaltungssektor profitieren können. Die Möglichkeiten sind breit gefächert und reichen von der Schaffung neuer Arbeitsplätze, über die Möglichkeiten des Wissenstransfers bis hin zur Weiterbildung.
Die diesjährige Keynote Rede wird Stuart Ayres, Ehrenminister für Handel, Tourismus und Großprojekte New South Wales, Australien halten und trägt den Titel: ‘How Meetings and Events Can Fulfil Political Optimism’. In seiner Rede erläutert er, warum es so wichtig ist, das Geschäftsfeld Veranstaltungen strategisch mit den Bereichen Handel, Investments und der Außenpolitik zu verknüpfen.

Konstruktiver Austausch zwischen Politik und der Meetingbranche
Das Nachmittagsprogramm startet mit einem Austausch internationaler und nationaler Best Practice Beispiele und Erfolgsprojekte. Ragnheidur Elin Arnadottir, isländischer Ehrenminister für Industrie und Handel, wird die National-Level Veranstaltung moderieren, während John Greenway, ehemaliger Parlamentsminister in Großbritannien, die regionalen Diskussionen leiten wird. Anschließend werden alle Teilnehmer sich im Hauptforum, bei dem globale Zukunftsthemen und innovative Methoden im Fokus stehen, treffen. In diesem Forum, das von Michael Hirst OBE moderiert wird, werden die Politiker, Regierungsvertreter und Branchenexperten gemeinsam diskutieren, wie Destinationen sich für die Herausforderungen der kommenden 15 Jahre vorbereiten können und dazu Ideen und innovative Konzepte austauschen.

Industry Calls on Government to Recognise Event Impact

– Olympic role in economic growth spurs call for more major UK events –

The £36bn UK events industry has called upon government to increase its support for organisations looking to bring new sporting, cultural and business events to the UK. The announcement follows news today that demonstrates the positive contribution the Olympic and Paralympic Games played in bringing the UK economy back to growth.

“The Olympic Games, the Queens Diamond Jubilee, and other related cultural activities, around Britain underline the awesome power of events in delivering both economic growth and social pride to communities; locally and nationally,” commented Michael Hirst, OBE, from the Britain for Events campaign and Chair of the Business Visits & Events Partnership, the umbrella body for the UK events industry. “Everyday the UK bids to bring major events to the UK, be they sporting competitions, cultural and live events, or business exhibitions orconferences. Each one of these brings in tourists, businesses, and spend to the economy; but we need help to win them.”

The UK events industry is already predicted to grow by some £500 million as a direct result of the Games, and will pick up the task of filling the £11bn extended infrastructure built as a result of the event. However the Britain for Events campaign is keen to extend the impact of the Olympic legacy.

“The summer saw the benefit of the Games in bringing people into the UK who invested in our hotels, restaurants, and transport. However, the added benefits of increased commercial spend and activity underline the power of events in stimulating business,’ continues Hirst. “We also demonstrated that the UK is creative, innovative and drives business; both locally and nationally.”
