Outrigger Hotels and Resorts’ 70th Anniversary kicks off with Founders Day Festivities around the World

HONOLULUEmbarking on its Platinum 70th Anniversary, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts announced today that the iconic hospitality brand will offer a full year of celebrations, promotions and giveaways – starting with Founders Day on Sept. 29, 2017.

Outrigger’s Founders Day honors the legacy of founding members – Roy and Estelle Kelley – and the company’s inspiring 70-year journey of growing from a single Waikiki hotel into a global portfolio of 37 properties in the most desired tropical destinations across Hawaii, Asia-Pacific and the Indian Ocean.

“For seven decades, Outrigger has captured the hearts of travelers from around the globe; our distinct style of hospitality unites the guest, the host and the place to create a uniquely immersive and engaging experience,” said Sean Dee, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Outrigger Enterprises Group.

“This milestone year will be one of evolution and growth as we reinvest in our properties and our people to further position Outrigger as the premier beachfront hospitality brand in the world.”

As tribute to its core founding values and 70-year milestone, Outrigger Hotels and Resorts will host an assortment of on-property activations, as well as a limited-time booking campaign and special contests for guests throughout the year, including:
Founders Day Manager’s Reception: To kick off the yearlong anniversary bash, each Outrigger Resort property will host a Hawaii-themed manager’s reception on September 29 in honor of the day that Roy and Estelle Kelley opened their first hotel in Waikiki in 1947 [note: first hotel was on Seaside Avenue.]. Along with complimentary refreshments and a decadent celebratory cake for guests, every event will also feature delicious, golden brown waffles – just like Estelle used to make for her guests – as well as fun prize drawings for attendees such as vintage shirts and tropical drinks.
Special Room Rates: For those looking to travel to either of Outrigger Resort’s iconic Waikiki Beach locations during its Platinum Anniversary celebration, the brand launched a special Founders Day booking rate from now through Sept. 20, 2017. Rates at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort start at just $179 and only $171 at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. Visit www.outrigger.com/specials/founders-day to book today!
Outrigger DISCOVERY Contest: Win an epic four-night vacation through Outrigger’s DISCOVERY loyalty program. Five lucky members will receive a special package inclusive of one black-level local experience at an Outrigger Resort beachfront property, as well as airfare up to $2,000. As further incentive, members who book with the brand receive double entries for a chance to win this sweet prize. Total value of this giveaway is valued at nearly $30,000 for the five winners. Sign-up details coming soon.
Platinum Pool Party: Carrying the celebration into 2018, Outrigger will continue to honor its Platinum Anniversary with a VIP party at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort’s pool deck in April. Highlighting the brand’s past, present and future, the exclusive event will feature live entertainment and food from each of its six destinations to showcase its tropical expansion into travelers’ “must-visit” bucket list locales.
#OutriggerTurns70: Starting on Saturday, Sept. 10, Outrigger will be “chasing memories” and asking all of our beloved fans and guests to share their memories of Outrigger with us on social media. A memory bank with treasured stories will be created.
Since its first property opening in Waikiki in 1947, Outrigger had the vision of sharing the spirit of aloha with every guest and becoming synonymous with warm hospitality and a true vacation in paradise. Seven decades later, Outrigger continues to encourage travelers to “Escape Ordinary” and discover local cultures through enriching programs and “Signature Experiences” that create a deeper connection with the people and places they visit. Today, these founding values continue to guide the brand’s success, which has blossomed into a global company that thinks and acts locally, encompassing the Outrigger heritage as well as the spirit and culture engrained at each of its 37 properties across the globe.

Outrigger Opens Luxury Property on Phi Phi Island Thailand

PHUKET, November 1, 2012 – The Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort and Spa officially opens this weekend in southern Thailand. From November 3, the stunning 156-key 70-acre property, formerly known as the Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort and Spa, will be run by Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, the 65-year old Hawaii based company that continues to expand in Asia-Pacific from its regional headquarters in Phuket, Thailand.

Outrigger took over the sales and marketing of the property in October last year. Since then, extensive improvements have been made, including the addition of 44 new Deluxe Garden Bungalows. The gym has been improved. Food and beverage venues have been enhanced.
“We have started to implement Outrigger international standards across facilities, food and beverage and human resource services,” said Darren Edmonstone, Managing Director Asia-Pacific for Outrigger. “It’s a completely new era for one of the most beautiful beach resorts in Thailand,” he said.

The new 53 sqm Deluxe Garden Bungalows are the highlight of the changes. They are located in clusters giving the atmosphere of a traditional Thai village. Inside, the interiors are contemporary with Thai touches. Each one features a walk-in wardrobe, a flat screen television, and iPod/iPhone docking station.

“The new Deluxe Garden Bungalows now give our guests superlative comfort and amenities on a par with the idyllic standards set by Mother Nature all around,” said the property’s General Manager, Marc Landgraf, who was appointed in July.

A new executive chef with extensive luxury hotel experience has also been hired to implement a completely refreshed food and beverage offering. He will bring acclaimed culinary expertise in Thai, French, Italian and Japanese cuisine to Outrigger. His new creations will be available in the resort very soon.

The property already wins consistent accolades on TripAdvisor. The unique location in a quiet peninsula of northeast Phi Phi allows guests to step from the resort right on to an 800-metre white sand beach with translucent sea water. Outrigger offers guests snorkeling, scuba diving, private boat excursions, fishing and a full spa facility.

“Guests seeking a wonderfully unique beach setting in Thailand with high quality international standards of service and comfort, should take a new look at what we offer on Phi Phi Island with Outrigger,” said Landgraf.

Outrigger to Acquire 254-key Laguna Beach Resort

July 25, 2012

Outrigger to Acquire 254-key Laguna Beach Resort in Laguna Phuket, Thailand
Transaction Scheduled to Close in January 2013

PHUKET, THAILAND, July 24, 2012Outrigger Hotels and Resorts announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the 254-key Laguna Beach Resort, located in the renowned Laguna Phuket integrated resort on Bang Tao Bay in the northwest coast of Phuket, Thailand. The transaction is scheduled to close in the first quarter of 2013.

“The Laguna Beach Resort will be one of the brightest jewels in the Outrigger portfolio and we look forward to completing the renovations and opening this resort early next year,” said Darren Edmonstone, managing director of Outrigger Enterprises Group – Asia-Pacific. “The addition of this iconic resort positions Outrigger extremely well in the growing Asia-Pacific region. The combination of the Laguna Beach Resort, with our existing management of the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas and the idyllic Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort and Spa, creates exciting opportunities for guests who desire a luxury experience in premier leisure destinations in Asia.”
Originally opened in 1991, the Laguna Beach Resort is nestled between a tropical lagoon and the Andaman Sea. The resort features amenities that include a spa, tennis courts, meeting and conference rooms, a wedding chapel, extensive water features and a resort pool. Each of the 254 rooms features a private balcony. A fully-equipped kids club makes the resort a perfect spot for families. The resort is just 20-minutes from the airport and Patong Beach, and 25-minutes from Phuket town. The property is currently undergoing a major renovation of all of its rooms and public areas and is expected to reopen early in the second quarter of 2013.

The Laguna Beach Resort will be the second Outrigger property in Laguna Phuket, joining the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas, which it has managed since August 2009.

Since starting its Asian expansion a few years ago, Outrigger has grown its presence to include properties currently open or under development in Bali and Phuket, the two most popular resort destinations in Asia, as well as in Phi Phi island, Thailand; Sanya, Hainan Island, China; and Quy Nhon, Vietnam.

“After managing a property in the Laguna Phuket destination resort for nearly three years, we are confident that the Laguna Beach Resort is a perfect fit for our first major investment in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to continuing to expand the Outrigger brand to other major resort destinations as well, added Edmonstone.

The Laguna Beach Resort is one of six deluxe resort hotels within the 1,000-acre Laguna Phuket integrated resort, widely recognized as one of Asias finest destination resorts, with five miles of pristine sandy beaches, the Laguna Phuket Golf Club, spas, restaurants and a retail shopping center. Laguna Resorts and Hotels Public Company Limited, a public company listed on the Thai stock exchange, developed the Laguna Phuket integrated resort starting in the mid-1980s from the remains of an abandoned tin mine once thought to be too polluted to develop. Laguna Phuket has since won numerous environmental awards as a result of that successful effort.
