YAANA Ventures Takes Stake In Grasshopper Adventures

Newly-created YAANA Ventures, which invests in, advises and manages responsible travel and hospitality companies, has taken a stake in Grasshopper Adventures, which provides high quality bicycle tours in Asia.

YAANA Ventures CEO Willem Niemeijer signed the agreement with Grasshopper Director Adam Platt-Hepworth in Cambodia on 23 March.

The aim of the partnership is to expand Grasshopper, which currently runs bicycle trips in 15 Asian countries and handles roughly 17,000 visitors per year. As with all YAANA Ventures, YAANA will support Grasshopper through investment, managerial expertise, marketing support and human resource training.

Grasshopper has offices in Mandalay, Bagan, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Saigon, Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. Its bicycle trips range from night rides in Bangkok to multi-day overland cross-border journeys in Indochina. Grasshopper also leads pioneering trips to destinations such as Bhutan, Japan and Uzbekistan.

After signing the deal, Niemeijer said that Grasshopper and YAANA were ideal partners due to “a shared vision and belief in responsible tourism which drives a commitment to authentic local travel.”

He added: “We were attracted to Grasshopper due to their focus on quality. This comes through in their belief in empowered ownership, frequent staff training, and their regularly renewed fleets of bicycles, all of which results in a superior guest experience.

Platt-Hepworth said that Grasshopper prides itself on providing bike trips for a diverse range of clients. Cyclists’ ages have ranged from 5 to 75 since the company was founded in 2004.

Whether it’s a family with young children visiting the Mekong region, or pioneering trips to destinations such as Mongolia or Uzbekistan, we make sure guests have real and immersive experiences,” said Platt-Hepworth.

In addition to Grasshopper Adventures, YAANA Ventures also partners with  GROUND (community development for student and business teams), Anurak Community Lodge (an eco-resort in southern Thailand), Banteay Chhmar Tents in Cambodia, and award winning DMC, Khiri Travel.

Khiri Travel Offers ‘Cash Back’ Agent Fam Trips in Mekong Region
Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam: three countries, three routes, three departure dates

BANGKOK, 23 January 2014 — Travel agents who secure a minimum of USD 10,000 of bookings following a special Khiri Travel familiarization trip to either Laos and Vietnam, Cambodia and Vietnam, or Vietnam only, will have their trip costs refunded in full.

The Khiri fam trips all take place in May and June this year. Travel agents have three choices:

1) the 9 Day Laos and Vietnam trip for USD 935, with departures on 5, 13 and 21 May 2014

2) an 8 Day Vietnam trip for USD 575 with departures on 12 and 19 May and 16 June 2014, or

3) a 9 Day Vietnam and Cambodia combination for USD 985 with departures on 12 and 19 May and 16 June 2014.

Prices are for land arrangements (excluding all air fares) and per person and are valid for bona fide travel agents only. Special prices are available for accompanying non-travel industry partners. Rooms are based on twin/double sharing. The refund is based on the cost of the land arrangement and offered to travel agents only, conditional on USD 10,000 worth of sales being reached.

“We’ve found that agents who experience the splendors of the Greater Mekong Region, have competitive advantage when it comes to selling,” said Willem Niemeijer, CEO of Khiri Travel.

The trips in May and June follow from successful other fam trips in Thailand in Spring 2013 and to Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in Fall 2013.

The 2014 trips give travelers high quality insights and experiences unique to Khiri Travel in each country.

The nine-day Laos & Vietnam trip visits Luang Prabang, Hanoi and Halong Bay. Highlights include Pak Ou Caves, Buddhist monk alms processions, an elephant village, waterfalls and the cultural attractions of Vietnam’s capital as well as Halong Bay.

The nine-day Vietnam/Cambodia combination visits Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Phnom Penh, Kep, Rabbit Island on the Cambodian Riviera, Sambor Prei Kuk and Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat. The highlights include a cyclo ride in Saigon’s Chinatown, the Fito Museum, Reunification Palace and the Cu Chi Tunnels. In Cambodia, the best of the country’s sites are all here: the Royal Palace, National Museum, Rabbit Island beach relaxation, the pre-Angkor ruins at Sambor Prei Kuk, and the majesty of Angkor Wat.

The eight-day Vietnam excursion visits both the north and south of the country with the best of Hanoi, Danang, Hoi An and Saigon on show. Highlights are the Temple of Literature, the old quarter of Hanoi, and a rural bicycle tour and cooking session with villagers. In Hoi An the attraction is the Japanese, French and European-influenced history and trying your hand at the Thung Chai ‘basket’ fishing boat. Saigon’s Chinatown, the Jade Emperor Pagoda the ornate old Post Office and the Cu Chi Tunnels are the other highlights.
