UIA – Union of International Associations hosts prestigious round table in Thailand for second time, endorses country as a global convention destination.

Frankfurt, 16 May 2017: The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau or TCEB, today unveiled the latest strategic marketing initiatives to attract business events travellers from Europe with the launch of Thailand’s brand campaign entitled “Thailand CONNECT: Your Vibrant Journey to Business Success”, together with a strategic collaborative campaign, “Thailand’s MICE United IV”.
The two campaigns target the country’s long-haul markets, and aim to draw more business events from Europe. The campaign is being launched at IMEX Frankfurt 2017 to international MICE delegates and media representatives from all over the world.
Ms Vichaya Soonthornsaratoon, TCEB’s Director of Convention, said, “TCEB is delighted once again to be here at IMEX Frankfurt. Europe continues to be an important growing market that contributes to the extraordinary success of Thailand’s business events industry.  During fiscal year 2016, Thailand welcomed 106,501 business events visitors from Europe with earnings reaching 251 million euros. Top European source markets are Germany, France and United Kingdom respectively.  Globally, Thailand’s business events sector enjoyed an impressive performance, welcoming 1,273,465 business events travellers, that generated 102,936 million baht in revenue (3.85 million euros).
Throughout this year, all of TCEB’s marketing activities will be implemented under the new Thailand brand campaign, entitled ‘Thailand CONNECT: Your Vibrant Journey to Business Success’ The campaign showcases the legacy of three fundamental pillars of Thailand’s MICE industry which are Diverse Destinations, Myriad Business Opportunities, and the People of Thailand. These key elements are the highlights which differentiate Thailand from other MICE destinations.”

Furthermore, TCEB is the catalyst building cooperation between government and private sectors. Together, they make up Thailand’s team promoting the country as a premier business events destination in the international arena.  The partnership is highlighted by the strategic collaborative campaign, ‘THAILAND MICE UNITED IV’, which will be unveiled in Europe before expanding to other regions in the world.
The campaign involves a partnership between 10 alliances including two newcomers, namely Airport of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) and King Power International Company Limited. The wider partnership brings a great variety of benefits for MICE delegates making their business trips in the kingdom even more pleasurable. Partners deliver value added features for MICE delegates attending international events that are supported by TCEB in Thailand. They include generous discounts on airport limousine transfers, airport lounges and transit hotel, duty-free airport and downtown complex shopping, airport restaurants and hotel accommodation. In addition, MICE delegates receive stored value cards for use on Bangkok’s Sky train and seven days free unlimited Wi-Fi.

With all these efforts and initiatives to promote Thailand as a global MICE destination, Thailand through TCEB has been endorsed by the 100-year old Union of International Associations to host the prestigious UIA Associations Round Table Asia Pacific 2017 for the second time in Thailand in Chiang Mai, 21-22 September. It was previously hosted in Bangkok in 2015.
Over 100 representatives from international professional associations and MICE suppliers will meet and experience the culture, beauty in the positive business environment of Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second largest city, during the global round table.

Welcoming 14, 000 Chinese Meetings and Incentives Travellers from Infinitus 2016,  Bangkok,  16 May 2016 – The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB today unveiled its aggressive strategic direction for 2016,  highlighting key strategies to attract more meetings and incentives with a large number of travellers – or Mega Size Events – by allocating sales promotion budget under the Thailand Big Thanks! Campaign.
China is among the key target source markets,  and TCEB is supporting more than 14, 000 meetings and incentives delegates to join the Infinitus Overseas Training 2016 – expected to generate MICE revenue of 1.3 billion baht for the Thai economy., Mr. Nopparat Maythaveekulchai,  TCEB President disclosed that,  “To promote the meetings and incentives travel (M&I) sector in 2016,  under our WIN Strategy,  TCEB will focus on attracting Mega Size Events with more than 2, 000 international delegates by establishing the Thailand Big Thanks! sales promotion campaign,  especially for organisers. With high spending power, every Mega Size Events can help inject healthy MICE revenue into our economy., “In addition to China,  key source markets for Thailand’s M&I sector also include other Asian countries. Secondary markets include the EU, US, and Oceania, while emerging markets where we closely monitor and start to create awareness of the Thai MICE industry range from Eastern Europe,  the Middle East,  and Latin America. In 2015,  Thailand welcomed a total of 1, 095, 995 MICE travellers from around the world,  generating 95, 857 million baht MICE revenue. Of these,  516, 663 travellers and 44, 533 million baht were from the M&I sector. Major contributors were China,  which presents significant opportunities and still has high potential for growth,  followed by India,  Singapore,  Malaysia,  the US,  Japan,  Korea,  Indonesia,  Hong Kong,  and Australia,  respectively.”, Ms. Nooch Homrossukhon,  Director of Meetings and Incentives,  TCEB said that, “The emergence of M&I Mega Size Events has been our new target over the past three years. We have put in place strategic plans,  from raising awareness of Thailand as a premiere destination for meetings and incentives travel in Asia,  to increasing marketing development activities through products and services promotions,  and VIP receptions to event logistics and facilitation. More importantly,  the THAILAND BIG THANKS! financial subsidy campaign in addition to the THAILAND CONNECT beyond THE CAPITAL will help organisers and key decision makers make Thailand their destination of choice for their next events.”, The THAILAND BIG THANKS! campaign was created to help drive the M&I sector through a financial subsidy scheme of up to two million baht for eligible Mega Size M&I events with more than 2, 000 international delegates staying at least three nights in the Kingdom of Thailand. Starting from 1 October 2015 until 30 September 2017,  the travel must take place in Thailand from 1 October 2015 until 31 December 2017. Complementing this is the THAILAND CONNECT beyond THE CAPITAL package,  presenting international corporate clients the opportunity to discover the diversity of Thailand with promotions from domestic airline partners including Thai Airways,  Thai Smile Airways,  and Bangkok Airways. Requirements include a group size of more than 100 delegates,  and staying in Thailand at least three nights. The organiser will receive transportation support of 1, 000 baht per delegate,  up to a maximum of 300, 000 baht per group. Applications are open from 1 October 2015 until 30 September 2016,  and travel must take place from 1 October 2015 until 31 December 2016., “Marking its 20th anniversary,  the Infinitus Overseas Training 2016 is held from 11 to 29 May 2016. Held for the thirteenth time in Thailand,  TCEB’s support for this annual corporate meeting under the THAILAND BIG THANKS! campaign also includes MICE LANE and immigration services for executives and VIP guests at the airport,  a Thai performance,  and special souvenirs for all delegates,  worth a total of five million baht. Additionally,  as a token of our appreciation,  TCEB will be presenting the “Thai-Sino MICE Outstanding Contribution Award” to Infinitus (China) for their continuous consideration of Thailand. The major meeting of one of the biggest health product companies in China for 14, 000 delegates will take place in Bangkok and Pattaya in seven groups (2,000 delegates per group),  and is expected to help generate more than 1.3 billion baht for the Thai economy, ” Ms. Nooch added. , In 2015,  China accounted for 109, 987 MICE travellers,  generating a total of 9, 197.65 million baht MICE revenue. Thanks to the upward trend of the M&I market from China over the past three years,  TCEB has appointed sales and marketing representatives to directly target corporate customers in Beijing,  Shanghai,  Guangzhou,  and emerging provinces including Shenzhen,  and Chengdu., “Since last year,  TCEB has welcomed Mega Size M&I events including the 2015 Manulife MDRT PEAK Convention,  Asia-Pacific Herbalife Extravaganza 2015,  2015 Perfect Marie-Anne tour to Thailand (Perfect China Event),  INFINITUS 2015 and Organo Gold Asia Convention 2015. During the 2016-2017 fiscal years,  we continue to successfully attract major meetings and incentives trips to Thailand such as Pro-Health,  in September 2016 with 5, 500 delegates,  and the Jeunesse Global Conference 2017 (Health Care / Skin Care),  in August 2017 with 12, 000 delegates. We believe that the effectiveness of the Mega Size strategy for M&I sector,  along with support for INFINITUS 2016 will play a vital role driving the Thai MICE industry to achieve this year’s target of 1, 060, 000 MICE travellers,  helping to generate 92, 000 million baht MICE revenue into our economy, ” Mr Nopparat concluded.

Deputy Prime Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn delivers policies on the promotion and mobilisation of Thai MICE to new board members of Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau. Active from now on, the newly appointed Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Weerasak Kowsurat, will lead the operation of TCEB, emphasising the achievement of Thai MICE based on the integrated approach to draw collaboration from domestic and ASEAN’s authorities. Good governance and budget allocation will beconducted considering optimum advantages of the country.

Deputy Prime Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn, as the supervisor to Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) – the bureau with primary mission to drive the industry of meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions or MICE, disclosed that, “MICE is an essential business segment as it tremendously moves national economy forward. MICE has the growth rate of 5-10 percent each year. In the fiscal year 2015, Thailand had welcomed 1,086,229 MICE travellers which increased from the fiscal year 2014 by 18.8 percent with 17.53 percent growth in revenue or equal to 94,966 million baht of revenue earning by Thailand. This could well prove the growth potential of Thai MICE for which the government has fully provided support both in terms of the enhancement of transportation system, the infrastructure necessary for MICE travellers and the integration of collaboration between TCEB and public and private sectors in Thailand and abroad. All of which have enabled us to succeed the mission.”

Operation toward the mobilisation of Thai MICE is set to have more strength and progress as the Cabinet agreed on 20 October 2015 to approve the proposal by Deputy Prime Minister General Tanasak Patimapragorn for the designation of 6 new board members of TCEB, including the Chairman of the Board of Directors and board members, due to the expiration of terms of office.

New Chairman of the Board of Directors and board members of TCEB are considered professionals with rich experiences in tourism business and MICE. As the supervisor, I have delivered key policies to the new board members focusing on 4 elements. Policy 1 will require the Chairman of the Board of Directors to stipulate the Free Play operation policy and conduct brainstorming between board members in a similar direction. Policy 2 will require the transparency of budget operations with good governance. Allocation of budget for the mobilisation of MICE must be conducted using unambiguous KPIs by which could optimise the country’s advantages. Policy 3 will require the integration of collaboration between public and private sectors, particularly the coordination with ASEAN member countries to form a strong foundation for the entire ASEAN along side with the strength of Thailand in terms of destinations, the readiness of MICE facilities and services. All of which will enable Thailand and ASEAN member countries to serve MICE travellers better to achieve the ‘Regional MICE’ vision. Policy 4 will require relevant authorities to educate people on MICE industry and the role of TCEB in a successive manner in order to create awareness and understanding in the importance of businesses that drive national economy forward,” Deputy Prime Minister added.

The fiscal year 2016 is bringing delightful news as Thailand was granted the honour to host MICE events of global scale continually. For example, Organo Gold Asia Convention 2015 with 10,000 attendees, One Young World 2015 with 2,000 attendees, Special Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses 2015 with 2,000 attendees, TBEX Asia 2015 with 900 attendees, the 14th CNBC Asia Business Leaders Awards 2015 with 300 attendees and the Bloomberg ASEAN Business Summit 2015 with 300 attendees.

There is a strong confidence that the promotion of overall Thai economy in the fiscal year 2016 will concentrate immensely on MICE as it is the business sector that could enhance Thailand’s economic expansion consecutively, as well as strengthen domestic and international confidence. It is expected that the fiscal year 2016 will see the number of MICE travellers increase by 5 percent to 1,060,000 for which could generate 92,000 million baht revenue into Thailand,” concluded Deputy Prime Minister.

Barcelona, November 2015Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB today announced the latest developments of Thailand’s business events industry, with the 2015 fiscal year delivering double-digit growth for both business events traveller numbers and earnings, helped by a strong performance in the European MICE market. Reaffirming the success of the Thailand brand in the global arena at ibtm world 2015, TCEB also introduced a range of promotional packages designed especially for EU MICE travellers, as part of the ‘Thailand CONNECT…Our Heart Your World’ communications campaign for the 2016 fiscal year.

Outlining the industry’s latest milestones, TCEB reported that from October 2014 – September 2015, Thailand welcomed a total of 1,086,229 business events travellers, generating more than EUR 2.4 billion for the country’s economy, reflecting 18.18 per cent and 17.53 per cent year-on-year growth respectively. As a major contributor to the Thai business events sector, the EU market contributed 93,226 business events travellers, earning the Thai economy more than EUR 221 million during the first three quarters of the fiscal year (October 2014-June 2015). The top five contributing countries from Europe during the period included France, Germany, UK, the Netherlands, and Italy.

To build on this strong performance, TCEB introduced several exciting promotional packages for EU MICE travellers. The first is the Thailand Connect Ratchaprasong Square Trade Association (RSTA) Welcome Package, providing recipients with special hotel and retail discounts, as well as other benefits, right in the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant downtown district. Complementing this is the CONNECT Beyond The Capital Package, presenting international corporate clients the opportunity to discover the diversity of Thailand with promotions from domestic partner airlines, and thirdly the CONNECT Business package, which offers exclusive promotions for trade visitors who achieve business matching at exhibitions in Thailand. All three packages offer special privileges for overseas organizers and delegates alike.
The promotional campaigns form part of ‘Thailand CONNECT…Our Heart, Your World’, TCEB’s innovative brand communications umbrella campaign in 2016.

‘Thailand CONNECT…Our Heart, Your World’ builds on a strong legacy of the three fundamental pillars of Thailand’s MICE industry including (1) Destinations (2) Business and (3) People.

1. Destinations of Thailand: ‘Destinations of Desire’. ‘Endless Opportunities to Experience’ Thailand’s unique culture are highlighted, ranging from unique history and culture, beautiful beaches and wild jungles, team-building playgrounds, lavish luxury, CSR and green meetings. Bangkok, 29 September 2015 – The Leading International MICE Event Centered in Asia-Pacific kicked off today at the Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld Bangkok, Thailand, presenting the largest line-up of over 20 MICE, events intelligence, corporate travel and association management knowledge sessions helmed by over 30 expert speakers. Ralf Ostendorf, Director Market Management of Berlin Tourismus & Kongress GmbH explained the motivation behind exhibiting at IT&CMA 2015 for the first time, “Our first experience with IT&CM Events was at IT&CM China earlier in Shanghai this year, and it proved to be a successful show for us. We are looking forward to the same success at IT&CMA 2015, as we see a lot of potential for Berlin as a MICE destination in Asia.”

Having reaped results from past sponsored networking functions at IT&CMA, Seoul Metropolitan Government, is delighted to return as a luncheon host for buyer and media delegates. Maureen O’Crowley, Executive Director, MICE Division, Seoul Tourism Organisation expressed her confidence backed by success at previous years’ events, “We had been the proud sponsor of Seoul Gala Dinner for several years. This year, we are excited to engage with buyers and media at a Seoul Hosted Luncheon that will take place tomorrow (30 September). At this luncheon, we will be highlighting new incentives from Seoul, especially our special support programs. The first day of the 2015 edition will round up with the Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception hosted by Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau. Held at Live House@Central World, TCEB will be playing host to all event delegates at the evening’s function themed ‘Heaven Unveiled. A Night in Paradise’.
