Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort Earns Official MICE Accreditation
The Outrigger in Phuket joins an elite collection of MICE venues in Thailand with MICE Venue Standard accreditation from the Thai government
PHUKET, THAILAND – The Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort has passed all systems tests to earn official Thailand MICE Venue Standard (TMVS) accreditation. The inclusion, effective immediately, followed a detailed submission and on-site inspections by the Thai government’s MICE Capabilities Development Department.
The Outrigger’s Area Director for Sales and Marketing for Thailand, Mr Rory Campbell, received the accreditation on behalf of the resort at an award ceremony for recipients organised by the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) in Bangkok on 27 April.
“With TMVS accreditation, our sophisticated Similan Ballroom MICE set up at the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort has been officially recognised as among the best in Thailand,” said Campbell. “We will now proudly take that message to event organisers who are seeking to create meaningful and rewarding corporate events in Phuket.”
The Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau created the TMVS system to give accredited venues a competitive edge and ensure sustainable growth in an increasingly competitive international MICE sector.
TMVS applies ISO quality standards in food safety, security systems, energy management and the administration of sustainable events. Physical, technological and service delivery standards have to be met before TMVS accreditation is awarded.
The Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort opened its Similan Ballroom and breakout spaces in 2014. It is now among the leading mid-scale event venues in Southeast Asia.
“Since opening, our commitment to our MICE clients has been underpinned by the support of a dedicated events team for each meeting,” said Tony Pedroni, the General Manager at the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort. “Our Outrigger hosts in Phuket work with clients to deliver inspirational Thai service that matches our acclaimed MICE set up and the amazing beachside location.”
Pedroni said that the Outrigger in Phuket prides itself on delivering high-spec facilities at events designed with a unique Thai twist.
The Outrigger offers the Similan Ballroom (716sqm), the Tongfah (158sqm), and the Tawan and Talay breakout rooms at 77sqm each.
Event attendees benefit from a range of high-end in-house AV equipment and technical support. The four meeting spaces feature free Wi-Fi, natural daylight, dedicated technical support, an event and catering team, and state of the art audio visual and conference amenities.
The Similan Ballroom can comfortably host executive conferences of up to 350 delegates in theatre style and 290 guests banquet style. Extensive gardens and a peaceful beachfront create inspirational settings for team building activities and outdoor banquets.

Finnair goes live with Workday to strengthen its employee experience as it grows
Finnair, the international network airline that specialises in flying between Europe and Asia along the shorter Northern route, has gone live with Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) to improve its employee experience and bring efficiencies to the HR function.
Over nine decades, Finnair has grown from a small Finnish airline to an international airline focused on Europe-Asia traffic. Finnair is undergoing the fastest growth phase of its history. The organisation of 5,500 employees expects to recruit another 1,000 employees over the next few years and needs a strong HR system to support its ambitious plans. Recognising the importance of the employee experience as part of its strategy and growth plans, Finnair chose to partner with Workday to embark on its ‘People & Culture’ digital HR transformation journey.

Key reasons for selecting Workday included:
The look and feel of the system, which is designed for the end user, fully integrated with the Finnair internal HR portal, and encourages and enables transparency.
The engaging, consumer-grade experience ensures that staff and managers can easily access information and perform tasks on-the-go from a mobile device, which is critical with a mobile workforce, many of whom work on the airlines.
The ability to get faster time-to-value and easier upgrades with a cloud-based HR system.
Finnair went live in early 2017 with Workday HCM, including a rollout of Compensation, Absence, and Benefits to 5,500 employees based largely in Finland, but with staff located in over 20 countries. Adoption has been high across the business with the self-service nature and agility of the system well-received. Phase two will include Workday Talent and Advanced Compensation, and the adoption roadmap for the near future includes Workday Recruiting. Performance Management is currently going live and it is expected to drive greater uptake across the workforce in the coming months.

Eurosport to promote to tourism potential of Azerbaijan
Baku, Fineko/abc.az. Azerbaijan is expanding the number of European channel partners to promote to the tourism potential.
The Ministry of Culture & Tourism reports that culture minister Abulfas Garayev met with representatives of European TV channel Eurosport.
“The main themes of the meeting were advocacy campaign on the channel in the first half of 2012, placing of an advertising videoclip there. The campaign for the second half of 2012 implies an increase in awareness about Azerbaijan in Europe, bringing information about the tourism potential of the country to the masses,” the Ministry says.
Relevant commercials are shown at world’s leading TV channels CNN, Euronews, Travel Channel, BBC, CNBC, and National Geographic to promote the existing tourism potential of Azerbaijan.
