Pegasus Airlines –
Our worst Airline / flight experience – Flight from Istanbul to Bishkek
After online check-in my seat was changed a couple of times and suddenly my seat was even questioned. So I had to wait until the very end of boarding. Once on the plane the Pegasus flight attendants were totally incompetent and unfriendly – Not able to handle a overcrowded airplane and still pushing me from one seat to another.

398 exhibitors on the show floor
15% increase in Pre-Scheduled Appointments
Hosted Buyers arrive from 18 countries

CIBTM ( 2012 opened today confirming its status as the leading event for the meetings, incentives, business travel and events industry in China and Asia. With over 5,000 meetings industry professionals (subject to an independent ABC audit post show) expected to participate over 3 days of the event, a 15% increase in pre-scheduled business appointments between Hosted Buyers and suppliers, 398 exhibitors on the show floor (an increase of 7% on 2011) and an 18% increase in the number of exhibitors from China, and Hosted Buyers arriving from 18 countries (up 36% on 2011), CIBTM is set to be biggest to date.

Jeffrey Xu, CIBTM Project Manager, Reed Travel Exhibitions commented; “We are delighted with the response we have had to CIBTM this year, in particular the increase in Hosted Buyers from China. This year we spent time in the regions building awareness of the MICE industry through a number of road shows and one of the reasons for the 36% increase in Hosted Buyers is a direct result of our work in the 2nd and 3rd tier cities around China.

“We have also doubled the number of corporate and association buyers from Beijing. As one of the key measurements for the success of our show is gauged by the amount of business leads created between buyers and suppliers, and with 8,459 pre-scheduled appointments already confirmed, this is a very positive start to the show” Xu added.

China Meetings Week kicked off yesterday with four bespoke Hosted Buyer tours, tailored to familiarize buyers from around the world with what the city of Beijing and surrounding areas has to offer the meetings and events industry.

Itineraries included excursions to the Temple of Heaven, Lao She Tea House, Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, National Museum of China, Beijing National Stadium and 798 Art Zone.

There will be over 19 dedicated education sessions during CIBTM, delivered through strategic partnerships with leading associations including Meetings Professional International (MPI), International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE). To view a full outline of the events planned to take place as part of China Meetings week, please visit

China Meetings Week is one of the major driving forces behind the growth of the meetings industry throughout China and is set to help the country fully realise its potential to attract large-scale international corporate and association events. This year the Site annual international conference will follow CIBTM in Beijing, another example of the development of the MICE sector in the region.

For the first time, meeting professionals around the world can download the IBTM Event Show App, by searching the App Store or Android Market for ‘IBTM Events’.

Minister supports move to professional development in events industry

13th August 2012, UK: The UK meetings and events industry will have an Institute of Event Management for professional development following the organisation’s incorporation last week, andendorsement from John Penrose MP, Minister for Tourism & Heritage.

In a letter to Planning Board Chair Susan Spibey, Mr Penrose wrote, “Business Tourism contributes £36bn a year and plays a vital role in the UK’s economy. Nevertheless, I want us to capture an even higher share of the international market. To do this we need to capitalize on the professionalism of our business tourism offer … The government supports the aims of any organization which seeks to raise the skills base, and I wish you future success with this venture.”

“This news follows a huge amount of hard work on behalf of the Institute to establish a credible and endorsed organisation for the events industry, commented Spibey. “This news moves us closer to the establishment of a working organisation with accredited professional development courses.”

Nick de Bois, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Events also added “I welcome this development as another step to enhance the professional status of the events industry. In this increasingly competitive environment we need to attract the brightest and the best and the Institute of Event Management is another important progression in this task.”

Martin-Christian Kent, Product Development Director at People 1st, the sector skills council for hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism, said that the organisation is pleased with the decision to approve the creation of the Institute of Event Management.

“The events industry is a critical part of the UK economy and it is fitting that the Institute provides a robust legacy when the UK is hosting the biggest sporting event in the world. We will continue to support the Institute’s work and the employers involved to increase the professionalism of the industry and help tackle the skill needs of its workforce”

The news comes following the launch of Britain for Events campaign, supported by Mr Penrose and the Minister’s visit to International Confex earlier in the year.

Outrigger to Acquire 254-key Laguna Beach Resort

Outrigger to Acquire 254-key Laguna Beach Resort in Laguna Phuket, Thailand
Transaction Scheduled to Close in January 2013

PHUKET, THAILAND, July 24, 2012Outrigger Hotels and Resorts announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the 254-key Laguna Beach Resort, located in the renowned Laguna Phuket integrated resort on Bang Tao Bay in the northwest coast of Phuket, Thailand. The transaction is scheduled to close in the first quarter of 2013.

“The Laguna Beach Resort will be one of the brightest jewels in the Outrigger portfolio and we look forward to completing the renovations and opening this resort early next year,” said Darren Edmonstone, managing director of Outrigger Enterprises Group – Asia-Pacific. “The addition of this iconic resort positions Outrigger extremely well in the growing Asia-Pacific region. The combination of the Laguna Beach Resort, with our existing management of the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas and the idyllic Outrigger Phi Phi Island Resort and Spa, creates exciting opportunities for guests who desire a luxury experience in premier leisure destinations in Asia.”
Originally opened in 1991, the Laguna Beach Resort is nestled between a tropical lagoon and the Andaman Sea. The resort features amenities that include a spa, tennis courts, meeting and conference rooms, a wedding chapel, extensive water features and a resort pool. Each of the 254 rooms features a private balcony. A fully-equipped kids club makes the resort a perfect spot for families. The resort is just 20-minutes from the airport and Patong Beach, and 25-minutes from Phuket town. The property is currently undergoing a major renovation of all of its rooms and public areas and is expected to reopen early in the second quarter of 2013.

The Laguna Beach Resort will be the second Outrigger property in Laguna Phuket, joining the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Resort and Villas, which it has managed since August 2009.

Since starting its Asian expansion a few years ago, Outrigger has grown its presence to include properties currently open or under development in Bali and Phuket, the two most popular resort destinations in Asia, as well as in Phi Phi island, Thailand; Sanya, Hainan Island, China; and Quy Nhon, Vietnam.

“After managing a property in the Laguna Phuket destination resort for nearly three years, we are confident that the Laguna Beach Resort is a perfect fit for our first major investment in the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to continuing to expand the Outrigger brand to other major resort destinations as well, added Edmonstone.

The Laguna Beach Resort is one of six deluxe resort hotels within the 1,000-acre Laguna Phuket integrated resort, widely recognized as one of Asias finest destination resorts, with five miles of pristine sandy beaches, the Laguna Phuket Golf Club, spas, restaurants and a retail shopping center. Laguna Resorts and Hotels Public Company Limited, a public company listed on the Thai stock exchange, developed the Laguna Phuket integrated resort starting in the mid-1980s from the remains of an abandoned tin mine once thought to be too polluted to develop. Laguna Phuket has since won numerous environmental awards as a result of that successful effort.

ITB Berlin 2012: Trendmotor und stabiler Branchentreffpunkt

ITB Berlin 2012

Travel Technology gewinnt weiter an Bedeutung
