Sheep View 360˚ campaign wins at the World Media Awards 2017
Sheep View 360˚, which saw the Faroe Islands enlist the help of its many (80,000) sheep to put the islands on the Google Street View map, recently won the top Travel & Tourism Award at the World Media Awards 2017.

With a budget of only $200,000, Sheep View 360˚ generated two billion media impressions and an estimated PR value of around $50 million. The campaign, in turn, shared the natural beauty of the little-known islands with the world, garnering support from countless destinations worldwide.

The campaign saw Faroese resident Durita Dahl Andreassen combine forces with Visit Faroe Islands to undertake a unique sheep-based mapping system to petition Google to put the destination on Street View, thus unlocking the Faroes’ hidden beauty. By mounting cameras on the back of sheep, which periodically captured 360˚ images as they wandered the hillsides freely, Durita was able to upload the pictures to Google maps, thus creating the unique ‘Sheep View’.

Nominated alongside Airbnb, Destination Canada, London & Partners and Marriott International, Visit Faroe Islands is thrilled to scoop the top award in the Travel & Tourism category.

The campaign has also won several other prestigious international awards in the USA, France, Sweden and Denmark.

Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore recognized as top destinations in Asia

Italy and France most popular in Europe, UAE top destination in Middle East
Texas, Florida and Las Vegas top the list in the USA

Results from a recent global Destination Index, compiled by the leading Global DMC and Event Management Companies, Pacific World ( and ACCESS Destination Services (, have identified the top destinations in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States for meetings and incentives.

Patricia Silvio, Global Marketing Manager, Pacific World, commented, “The Pacific World global Destination Index report identifies each year the countries and cities most thriving within the meetings, incentives and conferences industries. This year overarching themes that led to an increase in popularity were improvements in transportation/flights, an increase in venues and hotels, investment in technology, attractive exchange rates, and safety and stability.”

Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore were recognised as the top countries in Asia for meetings and incentives, with Bangkok and Bali voted as the most popular cities, and meetings and incentives being the most requested event types in Singapore. Governmental stability, attractive exchange rates and improved flight connections were factors contributing to the increased attention from source markets including North America, Australia and other Asian regions.

In Europe, France and Italy were identified as the top countries for meetings and incentives. Improved transport links and investment in infrastructure resulting in the opening of a number of new hotels and venues were factors accountable for the fact that Milan and Paris have both been voted as the most popular European cities for Meetings and Incentives, with increased interest from source markets such as the Middle East, USA, UK, Germany, and Brazil.

The UAE was recognised as the most popular destination for incentives and conferences in the Middle East, with the UK, Saudi Arabia and India identified as the key source markets placing inbound business into the destination. Accessible flight routes, new hotels, and an investment of time and resources in the latest technology and set-ups to facilitate large-scale events have pushed the UAE to the top of the list.

Texas topped the list as the most popular destination for meeting and events in the USA, followed by Florida and Las Vegas. New venues, restaurants and an increase in international and regional flights have boosted the popularity of these destinations while the abundance  of available VIP experiences have established Dallas, San Antonio, Miami, and Las Vegas as key cities for conference and incentives in the U.S.

Milan and Paris Identified as Top Cities
Results from a recent global Destination Index, compiled by the leading Global DMC and Event Management Company, Pacific World (, have identified Italy and France as the most popular countries in Europe for meetings and incentives.

Improved transport links and investment in infrastructure resulting in the opening of a number of new hotels and venues were factors accountable for the fact that Milan and Paris have both been voted as most popular European cities for Meetings and Incentives.

Emanuele Pinna, Destination Manager of Pacific World Italy, commented, “Thanks to its geographic centrality, recent economic and political stability and very good direct flight connections, Italy is becoming and increasingly popular destination for meetings and incentives.  The destination is also seeing a great deal of interest from Middle East meeting planners, due to the Alitalia acquisition by Etihad in 2014.”

Emirates flying daily from Dubai to Bologna from November 2015, has made Bologna’s Marconi Airport the fourth largest in Italy for global connections. From February 2016 Verona will accommodate three flights a week from Paris Orly International Airport, operated by Transavia, Air France’s low cost company.

New exhibitors: When the show floor opened, there were more than 80 new booths with exhibitors from all corners of the world, including Guam and Taiwan from Asia, Hungary and Zagreb from Europe, Paraguay and Ecuador from Latin America, plus Cincinnati, Oklahoma and Wisconsin from the U.S., to name just a few.

IMEXrun Las Vegas: New for this year, early on Wednesday morning, is the IMEXrun Las Vegas – inspired by Rio de Janeiro – a 5K street circuit taking in part of the famous Las Vegas Strip, starting at 6:30 a.m. from the Venetian Bridge.

Students set to shine at IMEX-MPI-MCI Future Leaders Forum
More than 100 conference and event industry students from across the USA, Canada and Mexico are set to gain a foothold in the competitive meetings sector at the IMEX-MPI-MCI Future Leaders Forum.

The Forum takes place during IMEX America, held in Las Vegas on 13 – 15 October, and is set to deliver a comprehensive educational programme with inspiring sessions by experienced industry professionals, meetings with selected exhibitors on the show floor and numerous networking opportunities.

Meetings industry leaders will share their expertise on topics including the future of the meetings industry, strategies for success in a global, culturally diverse economy and tactics to establish and advance a professional career in today’s competitive environment.

Students will gain insight from experts including representatives from Women In Travel (WINiT) who will discuss their own stories about how confidence is a key component to success in their session ‘The Confidence Code’. ‘How and Why to Plan for a More Sustainable Event’ will be explored by Aaron Elliott, Project Manager at MeetGreen. In an interactive keynote, Sam McNeill, Creative Director at Song Division, will explain how music and song-writing can help to create a culture of innovation, increasing happiness and productivity of project groups. Tyra Hilliard, Speaker and Educator at Hilliard Associates will run through the potentially daunting transition from college to the real world in Five Things Your Professors Haven’t Told You about the Real World.

Experts from across The Venetian® l The Palazzo® Las Vegas, which is sponsoring the Forum, will deliver a session on leadership as well as hosting a career development reception and a ‘behind the scenes’ backstage tour.

During a visit to the IMEX America show floor, supported by IAEE (International Association of Exhibitions and Events) and coordinated by M.T. Hickman (Director of Travel, Exposition and Meeting Management Program at Richland College) and George Fenich (Professor at School of Hospitality Leadership at East Carolina University), the budding event and meeting planners will have appointments with selected exhibitors.

More than 110 Forums have taken place and around 6,500 students have passed through the programme since its launch in 2003. A recent survey of participants showed that 90% of students are “likely to enter the industry as a result of attending” a Forum. Many former participants have gone on to enjoy further career and education opportunities in the industry, as Gabriela Herrera, alumni of Universidad de Monterrey (Mexico) who attended the 2014 Forum, explains:
“Thanks to the Future Leaders Forum, I not only learned more about the meetings sector but was able to meet some of the key people in the industry. After making contact with selected companies, I was offered an interview and, following graduation, now have a job at Meeting Incentive Experts. I work as Operations Coordinator, based at its Cancun office and look after community management and social media among other activities.”

Berlin, 8. Juli 2015 – Um den Erfolg Berlins als Kongressmetropole langfristig zu sichern, hat das visitBerlin Berlin Convention Office (BCO) zum „Meeting Place Berlin“ geladen. Vom 2. bis 6. Juli zeigten das BCO und Partner der Stadt mehr als 130 nationalen und internationalen Veranstaltungsplanern das vielfältige Berliner Angebot an Hotels, Locations und Kongress-Zentren. Die Teilnehmer zogen ein durchweg positives Resümee. Ziel der Veranstaltung war es, die Anzahl mehrtägiger Kongresse mit mehr als 100 Teilnehmern in der Hauptstadt zu steigern.

USA sind der Top-Auslandsmarkt – hohe Nachfrage bei Anmeldungen
Am Meeting Place Berlin nahmen 132 nationale und internationale Kunden aus 30 Ländern teil. Zu den Top-Auslandsmärkten zählten die USA, Großbritannien, Indien, Italien und Frankreich. Sogar aus Venezuela, Singapur und Indonesien reisten die Gäste an. Besonders gefragt war der Meeting Place Berlin bei Kongress-Agenturen (74 Prozent der Teilnehmer), gefolgt von internationalen Verbänden (15 Prozent) und Unternehmen (11 Prozent). Vertretene Branchen waren unter anderem Wissenschaft, IT und Luxus. Es gab mehr als 540 Anmeldungen.

Umfangreiches Rahmenprogramm: Touren präsentierten neue Locations und Hotels
Der Meeting Place Berlin fand unter anderem im neuen Westhafen Event & Convention Center statt. Beim Meeting Place Berlin präsentierten sich sowohl Klassiker als auch Newcomer der Berliner Location- und Hotel-Landschaft. Dazu zählten die „Bolle Eventlocation“, das „Estrel Convention Center“, das „25hours Bikini Berlin“ sowie das „Steigenberger Am Kanzleramt“. Weitere Touren führten zu bekannten Sehenswürdigkeiten und in die Kieze der Stadt.

Erfolgreiche Kongressmetropole Berlin
2014 blickt Berlin auf sein bisher erfolgreichstes Kongress-Jahr zurück: Laut aktueller Kongress-Statistik* des Berlin Convention Office von visitBerlin kamen im vergangenen Jahr rund elf Millionen Teilnehmer (+ 3 % im Vergleich zum Vorjahr) zu mehr als 131.000 Veranstaltungen
(+ 4 %) in die deutsche Hauptstadt. Auch international ist Berlin im Spitzenfeld vertreten: Derzeit positioniert Berlin auf Platz 4 der Kongressmetropolen. Die deutsche Hauptstadt überzeugt vor allem mit seiner vielfältigen Hotellandschaft und der großen Auswahl an Locations.

Turkish Airlines nimmt mit Miami achte Destination in den USA in den Flugplan auf

Köln/Istanbul, 13. Mai 2015: Mit den bereits bestehenden Verbindungen nach Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Washington, Boston und San Francisco, nimmt Turkish Airlines mit Miami seine achte Verbindung in die USA auf.

„Wir sind begeistert mit Miami unsere neueste Verbindung in die USA bekannt zu geben und stolz, ab Oktober eines der einflussreichsten Tourismusgebiete der Welt anzufliegen. Unser globales Streckennetz und unser prämierter Service ermöglichen ein flexibleres und bequemeres Reisen in diese Region, sowohl für Business- als auch Urlaubsreisende“, sagt der CMO von Turkish Airlines, Ahmet Olmuştur.

Mit Aufnahme der Route am 25. Oktober 2015 wird es pro Woche sieben Direktflüge in beide Richtungen geben (Istanbul-Miami und Miami-Istanbul).

Nach Istanbul kommen Reisende von Turkish Airlines flexibel und direkt über 13 Flughäfen allein in Deutschland (ab dem 30.06. mit Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden als 14. Flughafen).
