Saudi Arabia to launch into MICE sector worldwide by exhibiting at IMEX in Frankfurt
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is to launch its first international campaign to market the country as a destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions by exhibiting at IMEX in Frankfurt 2017 from 16 to 18 May.

Supported by a public relations campaign devised and implemented by London-based Clareville Communications, this marketing activity by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage in association with the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau will highlight the extensive range of more than 600 first class hotels, convention and exhibition facilities available in the leading cities across the country.
The marketing initiative is a practical step in line with Vision 2030, announced in April 2016, setting out economic and social policies designed to move the Kingdom’s economy away from its dependence on oil. Hosting business events is one of the focal points of the reforms, along with leisure and religious tourism, all means to generate both revenue and employment.
Under the National Transformation Plan, the centrepiece of Vision 2030, the Saudi Commission for Tourism & National Heritage (SCTH) is investing almost SAR 26 billion (US $7 billion) on initiatives around the country.
Established nearly four years ago, the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau was created with a mandate to develop the meetings industry.

Al-Essa, Executive Director of the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau explains: “As the worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events, IMEX in Frankfurt is the perfect place for us to meet thousands of influential event and meetings buyers face-to-face and to show them the opportunities in Saudi Arabia and many superb facilities that we could offer them.”

IBTM AMERICA 2016 SET TO OPEN WITH LINE-UP OF LEADING INDUSTRY SUPPLIERS AND BUYERS FOR 100% MUTUAL MATCH IN NASHVILLE

ibtm america 2016 (www.ibtmamerica.com), taking place from June 15-17 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, is set to debut it’s 100% mutual match business appointments design among an elite group of exhibitors and Corporate, Agency and Incentive Hosted Buyers.

Jaime McAuley, Event Director, ibtm america commented, “Our Hosted Buyer applications will go live early February, but for the first time this year we allowed Hosted Buyers to pre-register for ibtm america, and so far we’ve received applications from over 400 high-calibre buyers. We’ve also had over 100 exhibitors register for the event, which is not surprising considering that post-show feedback from ibtm america 2015 revealed a 95% satisfaction rate among exhibitors who felt our event platform worked for them.”

Corporate Hosted Buyers that have pre-registered for ibtm america 2016 will attend from companies such as Nature’s Way, Dell Inc., Metlife, Inc., Principal Financial Group, Tetra Tech, Inc. The Wall Street Journal, and Intel Corporation. Pre-registered Incentive/Agency Hosted Buyers will attend from companies such as American Express, Grass Roots, Meetings and Incentives Worldwide, Inc, and Peak Performance Distinctive. Association Hosted Buyers will attend from associations such as the American Association of Retired Persons, American Bar Association, California Alarm Association, Center for Disease Control and Prevention, American Public Human Services Association, Penn State University, and UC Berkeley.

All exhibitors and Hosted Buyers will be able to partake in 100% mutual match business appointments, which allows both parties to select who is relevant to their business needs and set up a diary of up to 30 appointments. ibtm america 2016 is the first event of it’s kind in the US to offer 100% mutual match business appointments.

Jaime McAuley, Event Director, ibtm america continued, “100% mutual match is a real game-changer for our attendees and definitely a draw for our exhibitors. Allowing exhibitors to request appointments with Hosted Buyers really puts them in the driver’s seat and gives them a real return on investment. 2012 started well for the team at the Darwin Convention Centre – it was awarded by the AIPC with Gold Certification, the highest possible achievement in its Quality Standards Program!

Darwin Convention Centre successfully completed a rigorous external audit, joining a select group of only 18 AIPC convention facilities to have successfully achieved this certification to date.

Darwin Convention Centre General Manager Malu Barrios says the certification is a reflection of her team’s passion and commitment to put Darwin on the global map of business events.

“I’m extremely proud of our team who are driven to achieve the best possible outcomes for our clients while almost oblivious that we are operating among the best in the world,” she said.
“The certification honours everyone’s efforts to continually look for new ways to deliver excellence in all aspects of our operations”, she added.

AIPC President Edgar Hirt congratulated the Darwin Convention Centre for its successful accomplishment of the AIPC Quality Standards Certification particularly at the top level of achievement and said, “It demonstrates to owners, colleagues and clients that the Centre is addressing international standards of performance in their management procedures.”

The Program is notable in that it is an industry-specific certification addressing the unique factors that distinguish convention centre operations. The audit involves strict assessment of ten key areas including customer service, quality of facilities and operations, employee relations, health, safety, security and emergency response, financial integrity, community relations, environmental responsibility, industry relations and supplier relations. It is process oriented with a strong emphasis on the client perspective.

The Darwin Convention Centre is a relatively young venue but has an enviable track record, establishing itself within the league of the world’s best venues within three years of operation. In the last 18 months, it has been recognised with five prestigious industry awards including the esteemed 2010 and 2011 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards, and was a finalist at the 2011 AIPC Innovation Award.

Last year, the Centre also gained the ISO 9001 accreditation for quality management systems from Lloyds Register Quality Assurance Ltd.

TAP Voted Best Airline in Europe
The Portuguese national carrier TAP Portugal received the Best Airline in Europe award at the 8th annual gala awards ceremony of the American magazine Global Traveler in Beverly Hills, California.

TAP was among 30 internationally-renowned airlines considered for the award and the vote came about as the result of an annual survey known as the GT Tested Reader Survey which is sponsored by the magazine.
The award is of great significance since it is based on a survey of more than 36,000 frequent flyers and business passengers who are invited to nominate their favourite airlines in the area of travel and tourism.
This year also marks the 8th year of the survey, which is highly valued for the fact that the winners are chosen objectively and impartially by the magazine’s readers, who answered questionnaires printed in the magazine, online, by post or e-mail between 1 January and 31 August 2011.
Global Traveler readers are frequent flyers who rack up an average of 16 international flights and 16 domestic flights per year.
In addition to this prestigious award, TAP Portugal received more recognition that night from another competition sponsored by the same publication, the 2011 GT Wines on the Wing, where TAP won the prize for Best Red Wine Served in International Business Class.
