ICOMEX TO BECOME IBTM LATIN AMERICA

ICOMEX – the leading MICE event in Mexico and LATAM acquired by Reed Travel Exhibitions in 2014 – is to be re-branded as ibtm latin america joining the global portfolio of ibtm events all of which were re-branded at the end of last year. ibtm latin america will sit as part of the Reed Travel Exhibitions global portfolio of meetings, incentives and events exhibitions and serve the Latin America region including south and central America.

Becoming part of the ibtm portfolio will give the event a major boost and international presence in the global meetings industry and provide new opportunities for the portfolio’s international database of meeting planners who are looking to place or do business across the region supported by ibtm latin america.

The current local expertise and knowledge of the team based in Mexico City, will now be supported by the ibtm portfolio around the world operating and organizing 8 events on 5 continents as well as being part of the Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) portfolio of events.

With the change of name, we are truly part of the international ibtm events portfolio and specifically we can now adopt many of the brand values that support each event. For example, the global themes for the ibtm knowledge programme can be used specifically for our region, combining local and regional emphasis as well as an international flavor. Equally we will benefit from the expertise in delivery of world-class Hosted Buyer programmes and have access to the ibtm and RTE sales network so that we can further grow our exhibitor and planner community”. Said David Hidalgo, ibtm latin america Show Director.

At the same time, the team based in Mexico City will provide dedicated local and regional knowledge and expertise to the global portfolio, building the database of domestic and regional planners and suppliers who are looking to expand their businesses around the world and who will be able to apply as Hosted Buyers to other events in the portfolio.

The new Hosted Buyer recruitment strategy for ibtm latin america 2016 will now expect to qualify from the international markets including Spain, Germany, France and UK as well as US and Canada. The programme will also witness growth from South and Central America as well as LATAM.

As a result, the event expects to see a growth in suppliers from overseas especially DMO’s and CVB’s who are looking to meet with regional planners. The new focus on bringing in international buyers will also see more domestic Mexican suppliers as well as those from North America and those from across south, central and Latin America.

The ibtm events portfolio is part of Reed Travel Exhibitions, the world’s leading provider of events and exhibitions for the travel and tourism industry.

Khiri Travel Appoints GSA for Austrian, Czech and Slovak Markets
Khiri Travel has signed a deal with Austria-based R Asien, which will represent Khiri Travel as its exclusive DMC for Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Indonesia.

The partnership takes effect from August 2015 and will connect Khiri with outbound tour operators and travel agents in central Europe who are seeking innovative and responsible itineraries in Southeast Asia.

Since its foundation in 2011, R Asien has built its reputation by sourcing original travel itineraries in 12 European and Asian countries.
Khiri Travel’s recent Travelife certification for Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam will help us connect discerning travel agents in Europe with a Southeast Asian DMC that has a responsible and audited approach,” says Martin Rokyta, General Manager and founder of R Asien.

R Asien will now sell Khiri Travel’s experiences in Southeast Asia including award winning trips to Banteay Chhmar tented camp in Cambodia and discovery tours to remote corners of Myanmar, among many more mainstream options.

“With Travelife certification we are internally set-up for success,” says Andre van der Marck, Vice President, Khiri Travel.

The time is right for Khiri to work with great GSA partners such as R Asien to enter new markets and really open their eyes to what we can offer to FITs, groups and MICE clients,” says van der Marck.

Europe shows recovery signs

August 25, 2015

Europe shows recovery signs in terms of international arrivals after a slow down during first semester of 2015
The latest results from the Air Travellers’ Traffic Barometer* produced by European Cities Marketing and ForwardKeys highlight that Europe shows recovery signs: after a flat growth in Q2 2015, expectations are high regarding Intra-European bookings for Q3 2015, with a 5.4% growth.

During Q2 2015 international arrivals are growing slowly
During second quarter of 2015, all international source markets grew by 1.1% compared to previous year, mostly driven by long-haul travellers (+2.4%).
The Intra-European market (standing for 60% of all arrivals in Europe) increased by a small 0.2%.
Africa was also in a negative trend this 2nd quarter of 2015 with a -10.7% decrease.
Asia & Oceania maintain a healthy growth while North America still benefit from a favourable currency exchange.

International bookings to Europe for Q3 2015 are encouraging
Middle East had a negative variation in Q2 2015 due to events such as the oil pricing slump which reduced the purchasing power and the business travels. Ramadan (from June 18 to July 17), has affected negatively this quarter, but the perspectives for Q3 are promising with a 25.2% growth of bookings from this area.
Africa is up by +7.5% for future arrivals based on issued booking up to 30 of June. The region should recover the growing path after a bad performance during 2014 due to Ebola’s crisis.

The standard profile for long haul trips to Europe: last minute decision, 1-2 people, 1 week
Stays between 1 to 8 days predominate in second quarter of 2015, and showed interesting increases. However, the shortest stay had a timid growth, almost flat, likely due to the slowdown in the business profile of Middle East visitors. Regarding the lead time, most common segment is still late bookers, who decide the final trend in the last minute. Solo and couple travellers remain the main part of the total arrivals (74%) but Groups segment (6+ pax), despite its low volume, maintains a healthy growth (+7.1%), mostly due to the Asian market.

Final Call for Submissions for the ibtm world 2015 Technology and Innovation Watch Award

August 25, 2015

Final Call for Submissions for the ibtm world 2015 Technology and Innovation Watch Award
Visit www.ibtmworld.com/techwatch to enter

The next winner of the ibtm world Technology and Innovation Watch Award is about to be found. With just two weeks left for submissions – entries close on 4 September – the industry’s annual global award is open to anyone who has an inspiring and innovative product that could contribute to the future of the meetings industry.

A judging panel will shortlist 10 submissions to be recognised as the ‘Top 10 Innovations to drive the industry forward’. These 10 innovations will be offered the opportunity to feature in the dedicated Innovation Zone at ibtm world. The panel will also vote for one of these top ten to become the Technology and Innovation Watch winner.

Considered by previous winners to be a key platform for launch and awareness of their product, this year’s winner will not only benefit from a global pre- promotional campaign via ibtm world (www.ibtmworld.com), the leading global event for the meetings and events industry, but also a prominent presence in the Innovation Zone, and the opportunity to present their winning product at the show in Barcelona. www.ibtmworld.com/techwatch

Winning the award in 2014, LiveGroup, made the most of the opportunity: “We’re absolutely delighted to have gained such clear recognition for the quality of our work. The award is a ringing endorsement of the extraordinary capabilities of the Live Group’s mobile app, not least the newly launched Locator Function, which we think is set to be a game changer for delegates, clients and venues hosting live events”

Showcasing their products in the Innovation Zone gives companies access to some 15,500 meetings and events industry professionals including exhibitors, Hosted Buyers and visitors. Showslice who took part last year said: “The major change we made was to our income generation and we are now currently growing at a rate of 25% each month. We received a lot of support and insight from various organisations. Being part of the Innovation Zone got us noticed by Shell who gave us £3,000 and the Shell Livewire Sustainability Award in December 2014 considering us to be a smart city solution for events. This has helped us to define our offering further and ensure that we always provide our clients with a professional service that brings the industry together.”

Graeme Barnett, Senior Exhibition Director commented: “Since its creation, the Innovation Zone has always been a great showcase of the creativity, passion and drive needed to create real change within the meetings and events industry. It is also an opportunity to secure real business with Hosted Buyers, trade visitors and even exhibitors, all wanting to see how this part of the industry can improve their own business. Many young companies have had the opportunity to be part of the discussions, to uncover potential and to connect with the innovative and the influential.

Free to enter, the application process for submissions is now open at http://www.ibtmworld.com/techwatch. Entry for the ibtm world 2015 Technology and Innovation Watch Award will close on Friday 4th September.

Going green – IMEX America builds on success of sustainability initiatives

Hosted buyers, visitors and exhibitors alike can all enjoy a greener IMEX America this year thanks to a host of sustainability initiatives focusing on waste reduction and education.

News Release
August 19 2015
– A new charity recycling initiative, becoming part of the Green Team and attending relevant education sessions will help attendees to reduce waste and increase their awareness of corporate social responsibility.

This follows the results of the MeetGreen® Sustainability Report for IMEX America 2014 which showed a 31% reduction on total waste from the previous year. The use of locally sourced foods increased by over 150% and food waste decreased by 56%.

The organisers of IMEX America 2015, which takes place 13 – 15 October in Las Vegas, are building on this success as Carina Bauer, CEO IMEX Group, explains: “IMEX America is committed to encouraging the meetings and incentive travel industry to address sustainability issues and to tackle these issues in a proactive, practical way. The intention is to raise the green bar across the board and strengthen our sustainability efforts.

Among the sustainable initiatives attendees can discover are:
• The Inspiration Hub – home to all the show floor education, the Inspiration Hub features a number of sessions exploring various aspects of sustainability. These include Guiding you to (and through) greener events by Aaron Elliott and Nancy Zavada, President and Founder of Meet Green. Current CSR trends and their impact on the events industry will be explored by Lizzy Paulson, Events Director at Time Warner Cable, in Planning for a revolution: the rise of people, planet and profit. Are you losing out by ignoring CSR?

• The Shade Tree – IMEX is supporting a new initiative at The Shade Tree, a shelter for homeless and abused women and children. IMEX sustainability consultants, MeetGreen®, have designed a complete recycling program, Evergreen Shade Tree, which will establish processes and signage, educate residents and provide recycling bins. Attendees are also invited to The Shade Tree to visit the Healing Garden, created by the IMEX Challenge team in 2014. After the visit the group can join Song Division who will be working with the children at the shelter to write and produce a song.

• Green Team – all buyers and exhibitors are invited to become a part of the team. Green Team members are asked to complete tasks that reduce waste and increase awareness of corporate social responsibility. Members of the IMEX America Green Team receive a green ribbon to wear proudly during the show.

• Badge Back – at the end of the show, buyers and exhibitors can place their badge in one of two boxes. Each box represents a local charity – The Shade Tree and Opportunity Village, Nevada’s largest not-for-profit organization providing vocational training, employment and arts-based programs for citizens with intellectual disabilities. For every badge recycled, donations will be made.

• Clean the World – at the booth, attendees can build hygiene kits from recycled toiletries gathered from participating hotels. The kits will then be donated to The Shade Tree shelter.

Capri by Fraser eröffnet Design-Hotel in Frankfurt direkt an der Messe

Markteintritt in Deutschland
