Saudi Arabia to launch into MICE sector worldwide

April 28, 2017

Saudi Arabia to launch into MICE sector worldwide by exhibiting at IMEX in Frankfurt
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is to launch its first international campaign to market the country as a destination for meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions by exhibiting at IMEX in Frankfurt 2017 from 16 to 18 May.

Supported by a public relations campaign devised and implemented by London-based Clareville Communications, this marketing activity by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage in association with the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau will highlight the extensive range of more than 600 first class hotels, convention and exhibition facilities available in the leading cities across the country.
The marketing initiative is a practical step in line with Vision 2030, announced in April 2016, setting out economic and social policies designed to move the Kingdom’s economy away from its dependence on oil. Hosting business events is one of the focal points of the reforms, along with leisure and religious tourism, all means to generate both revenue and employment.
Under the National Transformation Plan, the centrepiece of Vision 2030, the Saudi Commission for Tourism & National Heritage (SCTH) is investing almost SAR 26 billion (US $7 billion) on initiatives around the country.
Established nearly four years ago, the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau was created with a mandate to develop the meetings industry.
Tariq A. Al-Essa, Executive Director of the Saudi Exhibition and Convention Bureau explains: “As the worldwide exhibition for incentive travel, meetings and events, IMEX in Frankfurt is the perfect place for us to meet thousands of influential event and meetings buyers face-to-face and to show them the opportunities in Saudi Arabia and many superb facilities that we could offer them.”

Guam Visitors Bureau Buoyant about MICE Growth

Guam Visitors Bureau Buoyant about MICE Growth as new Convention Center Wraps Successful First Year

The island of Guam, a US Territory, is generating increasing interest and business in the MICE industry as an emerging destination among organizations in North America and Asia — particularly following the opening last November of the new Convention Center at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort.

With 9,450 hotel rooms on the island as a whole and several venues capable of hosting everything from small groups to conventions with up to 4,000 delegates, Guam offers a fresh alternative for meetings, conferences and incentives.

The United Nations World Tourism Organization & PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) 2016 Annual Summit were held in Guam earlier this year, while the World Health Organization Conference in 2015 and MetLife & Toyota events highlight the world class organizations that endorse Guam’s meetings credentials.

Pilar Laguana, Director of Global Marketing of the Guam Visitors Bureau commented: “We’ve seen a notable rise in enquiries and bookings from the meetings and incentive travel sector in the last 12 months. The Convention Center and our investment in dedicated MICE sector marketing such as exhibiting at IMEX America for the first time in 2015 have significantly boosted awareness and interest. We have especially had more incoming contacts from China, Korea, and North America and expect this growth to continue following IMEX America 2016.”

Guam combines unspoiled natural beauty, superb traditional food and culture, and meetings capabilities with technology. Having been able to build up a tech infrastructure from a clean slate, the island offers strong wifi connectivity, and the Guam Visitors Bureau is creating a Guam meetings planner portal, as well as developing a Smart Guam strategy to help delegates leverage mobile devices and the Internet of Things.

Pilar Laguana, Director of Global Marketing sums up: “Guam is well equipped to accommodate a wide variety of conferences, incentives, team-building and networking events for any industry sector.

“The growth in the MICE sector follows a significant increase in overall visitor numbers to the island which have doubled in recent years and we expect MICE industry business also to grow substantially in the next few years.”

ibtm arabia delivers new format MICE event for the Gulf Region

International Hosted Buyers from 36 countries representing key and influential planners of MICE business have descended on Abu Dhabi for an exclusive closed door one-to-one meeting format in a revamped ibtm arabia (formerly GIBTM).

Opening at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi today, the event will be the only one in the region to introduce international buyers from Asia Pacific, Europe, North America, South America, Africa and the Middle East, all representing leading corporations, associations, and agencies, to a mix of suppliers from the region and overseas.

With twice as many exhibitors as GIBTM 2014, 24 will be participating for the first time. There will also be 5 new countries represented including Scotland, Ethiopia, Japan, Mexico and Canada.

“ibtm arabia’s successful introduction is an endorsement of the strength of Abu Dhabi’s MICE proposition and proves we have evolved an established industry event to make it more relevant for delegates, buyers and exhibitors,” said Mubarak Al Shamisi, Director of the Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau, a division of Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi).

The new exhibition format provides a platform for Abu Dhabi’s MICE sector to introduce new products and services, and present their products to industry experts specialising in a number of diverse fields such as international corporate groups and the expanding local wedding business, and promote packages to the local and GCC markets.

The “new” event brings everyone together for three days during which they will participate in “Discovery Day” where both buyers and suppliers get a taste of Abu Dhabi, and the experiences it offers for the MICE industry, followed by the opportunity to attend the ibtm arabia Knowledge Forum giving inspiration from two thought provoking speakers. Two days of business will follow, where over 3000 appointments will be held between buyers and suppliers with a diary of up to 30 appointments for each of them, plus networking and social events will bring everyone together.

“The significance of ibtm arabia is fundamental to the continuing growth of the MICE sector and has been built on the success of GIBTM. This new format however, creates a community for this industry, and for the first time everyone will work, learn and network together giving endless opportunities to meet, connect and do business as well as make new friends. ibtm arabia offers real exclusivity and with the quality of both buyers and suppliers, matched to have real influence on each other, we believe this new formula can enhance the experience of all our attendees,” said Lois Wilcox, Exhibition Manager ibtm arabia.

Highlights of ibtm arabia include: Discovery Day, Knowledge Forum, Pre-scheduled appointments, 9 networking events.
